Domus Julia in Rome-- anyone been there?

My head is spinning with internet sites! I'm looking for a nice double in Rome, under 200EU, with breakfast buffet, in early May. It sounds easy, but it's not. Places are already booked up. So I found this one, the Domus Julia, and reserved it today. Its reviews are mostly glowing on tripadvisor.com. Has anyone actually been there lately? (I promise I'll stop soon-- just help me find something great!)

Thanks again!

I stayed at their hotel next door, Hotel Julia. I had a very small room but I paid only about 70 euro for it. The staff is very helpful, the breakfast was good and plentiful and the place was very clean. If you are arriving by plane, have them arrange the shuttle service for you. It was a good deal for me. It was 12 euro each way. About the same price as taking the train to the center and then the subway and then walk a few blocks. I would rather get in the van at the airport and then get out at the hotel.
Have fun - the location was great!

Thank you, cls2paris, for your reply. It does look like a great location, and the 12EU shuttle is definitely a plus (compared to 50+EU most places charge). I'm glad you liked the Hotel Julia. I assume they are both run in the same fashion. And the rooms might be larger at the Domus Julia, as it's more an apartment building, I believe.
Anyone else?

I agree with cls2paris about Hotel Julia. (In fact, I think we already agreed on this point on another thread. ) Very convenient, nice staff, a quiet street, good breakfast. If you stay at the Domus, do you get to eat breakfast at the hotel? I'd happily stay with my daughter at either the Hotel or the Domus.

Thank you, too, WillTravel! I'm really happy to get your recommendation. Now maybe I can put my Rome hotel plan to bed!
P.S. I have too many threads going-- is that what you're saying? (Just kidding-- I know I'm over-planning. But hey, it's fun to hear from other fodorites-- best source anywhere, non?).

WillTravel, I forgot to answer your question. I am unclear on where breakfast is served. I know it is included in my rate, but it's either buffet at the hotel, or served in our room. Maybe it's our choice at check-in. I think we'd prefer the buffet, actually, so we can select exactly what we want. Ciao!

Maureen, I seem to recall some reviews about breakfast being served in the room at Domus Julia, which is why I asked. I would prefer the buffet, too. What rate did you end up with?

WillTravel, we're paying 170EU for a double superior with breakfast. I will e-mail them and ask for clarification re: breakfast buffet or not. It won't change my mind re: our stay there, but it would be nice to know. I"ll post an answer if I get one, and I'll also do a trip report in June after the fact.

Hello,
I stayed at the Hotel Julia in Sept. of 2003. The staff was very friendly, my room was clean and had all the modern facilities. The breakfast buffet was good.
It is in a good location. You can walk to the Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps. There are internet cafes and good restaurants nearby.

Enjoy your time in Roma !!!

I think if you google "Domus Julia" you may come across the trip report of someone who stayed there a while back. She included a lot of pictures of her apartment. I don't remember the website address unfortunately.

Thank you! I'm hoping it's got a nice outside and entrance, too, so I keep looking for info. on Domus Julia. I'll search this forum.

I did find the trip report with great photos, inside and out, of the Domus Julia, and a glowing recommendation for it:

Thanks for the tip, Housemartin!
I'll stop obsessing about our hotel in Rome now!
