Has anyone taken a direct bus on the new highway that does not go the old route through Trikala?

The trip from Thessaloniki to Trikala takes about 2,5 hours and the route is via Larissa.
There is no KTEL route via the Egnatia motorway ( which is what i think you mean with new motorway)
There is a direct connection from Thes to Trikala, where you will have to change bus for Kalambaka.

So I suspected. Thank you for the link, very much appreciated. There is an Ammons bus service from Thessaloniki that does use the new motorway, but they only do return charter tours of Meteora from Thessaloniki, I believe 46 Euros per person. According to the email I received from Ammons a passenger can pay the excursion price, take the excursion and remain in Meteora.

According to Rome2Rio, the Ammons bus does the trip only 3 times/week:

KTEL Trikala has its HQ in (wait for it) Trikala, so I doubt it would bypass it to go directly from Thessaloniki to Meteora. Another web page for the KTEL Thessaloniki to Kalampaka service is here:

I had never heard of Ammon before, but looking at their website i see that this is a travel agency based in Thessaloniki, offering organized tours.
This is something totally different than what KTEL is offering... which is public transport.
