I have some frequent flier miles on Delta that I would like to use and was trying to determine if they do any inter-European flights (i.e., London to anywhere on the Continent).

The interactive map on the Delta website seems to show only about five flights from London to the States, but I suspect I'm using it incorrectly.

Does anyone know an alternate site that might list Delta options from Gatwick and Heathrow?

I'm no FF whiz, but I do know that you shouldn't be limited to Delta. Try their partners desk for availability from Air France, KLM, Continental and others.

Delta lists at least 5 Europ[ean cities from London on its home page.

Click the magnifying glass under "TO".

As a US airline Delta is restricted to flying US-UK only. They are not permitted (today) to fly UK to other countries.

In the same way BA cannot fly NY-LA or US to France.

The new open skies agreement will change the landscape, but I'm not up on all the details.

Thanks - I think part of the problem is that the website doesn't seem to be working. I will check back tomorrow to see if I'm better able to see my options.

I have found that I have to call Delta and have them book the flights with am EU partner airline (using Delta miles). essentially it become s a "request" that the partner has to approve. I've actually had good luck with Air France...of course the flights are always late, but that's another issue.

DL should have live access to partner award inventory. There's no request process that the partner has to approve. The current exception that I'm aware of is with Singapore Airlines flights.

Most partners are still not available online and as of 4/1, Delta is imposing an additional "handling charge" of $25 for any award booked by phone that includes a segment on a partner carrier. This is on top of the now increased to $25 telephone ticketing fee. So essentially, you're looking at $50 per ticket plus taxes for partner awards booked by phone.

Depending on where you're going, intra-Europe may not be a good use of your miles.

Delta is a Skyteam member, and often has code-sharing with Air France-KLM. You shuld be able to use your mileage on AF/KLM intra-Europe though may have to call customer services (and keep on pestering) instead of checking availability on the website.

You can search award availability for Air France, KLM and Aeroflot on Northwest's website, then call Delta to reserve and ticket. For Czech, Alitalia, and Air Europa, you'll need to call to check availability.

Strike the reference to Alitalia--with their current pending bankruptcy and failed talks with AF/KLM, I wouldn't take any chance booking with them. On FlyerTalk's Delta board, there are many FFs bemoaning their Alitalia flights that look like they won't go anywhere. Worse is the status of those who are already in Europe and depending on Alitalia to get home.

I'm not advocating booking Alitalia flights currently either. However, as the ticket would be issued by Delta, it's still Delta's responsibility to re-accommodate the passenger somehow.
