I will be in Paris from 30 Dec - 4 Jan and am looking for a day trip that isn't touristy. I've been to Versailles, and seen chateaux in the Loire Valley, so I'd like to see something new/different/ off the beaten path.

Take a train from Gare de Lyon in Paris and 1h40 later discover Dijon and its Dukes of Burgundy heritage. It is not really off the beaten path but Dijon is quiet in the winter. Go to the tourist office and ask for the owl's trail brochure (2&euro to follow the path that leads to the nicest sites.

Nice suggestions so far; you could also take the train to Rouen

For a day trip, we joined a Fat Tire Bike Tour and went to explore Monet's Gardens in Giverny. It was wonderful.

There has been so much posted on this subject here. If you go to Search on this subject you'll be on for hours, if not days.Your cup will runneth over.

Monet's house and gardens are closed in winter.
Chartres is also a possible day trip, or Provins.
