County Mayo or County Kerry

Which of these areas would you suggest for a week's stay in a self-catered cottage for a family of 4 (2 kids)?

While our choice may be dictated by whatever happens to be available at this late date (going week of July 24), I am still interested in people's thoughts.

Thank you for your help.

Greg

Kerry and Mayo are both beautiful, but also both pretty big counties...so it would depend on where in Mayo or where in Kerry.

Not as many tourists go up to Mayo, so you might find more availability there. I'd be very happy to spend a week in either county.

Thanks for your thoughts. I'll keep trying to find something in County Mayo for now, probably around Westport, unless people have other suggestions.

Thanks again.

Westport's a nice town. You might also want to look around Louisburgh. Have you considered Achill Island? Lots of vacation rentals there.

MaryZ,

I did try Achill Island at another poster's suggestion but, unfortunately, had no luck for the week in question. I will try Louisburgh. Thank you for the suggestion.

I'm so happy that no one has said, "Go to Kerry and pass the Mayo."

Greg, go to www.ireland.ie. Click on 'Find accommodations' and then click 'book online' at the bottom of the page. I put in the date of July 24 and it came up with quite a few available properties in Mayo.

You could also have a look on http://www.irishholidayrentals.com/ they seem to have cottage rentals in every county.
