Adam,

I'm too tired to be ready! I had the most grueling final today. Hopefully my masters committee will be nice.

And then...EUROPE!

I've enjoyed reading about where people are going - gives me so many ideas for future destinations but, this time is Germany. My son and I leave in July (69 days and counting).

I'm not prepared as I have loads of reading to still do on the side. I don't make a lot of plans for trips, I do a lot of homework and get a general overview of where I'm going and then, let the details and adventure unfold.

First time in Germany. My son has been wanting to go for a couple of years. Now that I have secretly bought the tickets he tells me his top destination is Ireland. HA too late kid. Went to Italy twice in '04 and have been in love with the people, wine, art, country etc. ever since. Would be going again this go 'round to see new places but, for my son and his request. It's all good. I have a long list of places I'd like to go to with him.

I'm looking forward to meeting the lovely people and experiencing their curlture the most. Well, drinking local wines is way up there too, I guess. I met a couple from Germany and their son while in Italy. I've never forgotten them. Hoping to meet a lot more like them and I'm sure I will.

Thanks Flygirl, how time flies! I am going to finish Miss Garnet's Angel tonight on the train home. It has been a great read, and I really want to find the places she's been in Venice. I think it'd be a great plane read.

Now to find something for my actual flights!

Only 16 days until we leave for Switzerland and Germany!

We're so ready - not yet prepared, starting to put things aside in the spare bedroom.

This is my 4th time there - visiting my husband's family.

We're looking forward to...beautiful countryside, amazing mountains, and of course....FOOD! Delicious fresh crusty bread and fluffy croissants with homemade jams, great cheeses, hearty meals of wurst and potatoes, fabulous pastries and desserts. And that great STRONG coffee. Can't wait!!

Three Hundred and Seventy Odd (give or take 5) days! 370!!! Oh, you hae no idea how I envy all of you who are leaving within the next dew weeks - I wish I were leaving now, too!

But! It's ok, because my day will come I plan on visiting Italy again (#3) next May 2007 - I'm going alone and I'm psyched about it - I actually WANT to go alone (my friends think I'm pathetic); it all sounds so exciting to just be alone and in my own thoughts for a week.

I hope to fly into Rome and then drive up to Siena and just tour around (again) up there (Florence, Lucca, Cortona) for about 6 days - then drive back down and revisit all my favorite places in Rome.

Good luck to you all and happy travels!!!!

My next actual trip is skiing in August, but I don't leave the country - though I still have to take 2 flights and a 3-4 hour bus trip! The trade off is that I'm staying on the ski fields, and literally ski to the door.

The BIG one is in 285 days to Rome, Venice, Paris and London - a whole month in Europe (first timer)! Not that I'm counting the days or anything

36 days before I go to France: half a day in Paris, then a weekend in Grenoble with a possible bus daytrip to wonderful Turin (SO excited by the opportunity to visit again - the bus service is offered only once in June -exactly when I'm going to be there!), then 3 days in Annecy, with just wandering around the area, before I'm back to Paris for the 1 more halfday.
After that, if everything goes as planned, I have 109 days before I go back to Italy - 6 days in Bologna with daytrips and 4 last days in Rome - couldn't resist the temptation to go back to Rome. I was there for the first time last March and am already dying to go back.

Our next trip was going to be Tunisia -using frequent flyer miles, but by the time we did the research(thank you Fodorites for making us want to go)one days later was too late for availability! Aargh! So then my husband decided on Croatia and in 26 days time we will fly to Dubrovnik(stay 1 night),rent a car the next day and spend the next 4 days driving around wherever! We tend to take lots of short breaks, though We'd love to have a fortnight to spare as there seems so many nice places to visit. . Gotta go and listen to my Croatian learning CD!!!
PS- still got our frequent flyer miles!
