Celebrity Millenium cruise departing from Venice
Hi there,
we will be arriving in Venice the day before we are able to board the cruise ship. ( We stay on board for 2 nights)
Does anyone know where the ship is docked?
What accommodations are close by?
Thanks in advance
Donna

hi
ira makes a good point.
If the ship is docked at some location in Venice, I encourage you not to feel you have to stay at a place very close to the ship unless you were planning on walking to the ship with your luggage. Venice you could stay in a very charming and central place for the one night and really enjoy yourselves.

Actually, I think there are many people on this board who have cruised out of Venice and could provide our good friend, Donna, an approximate area of where the cruise ships dock, and maybe a recommendation for a hotel for one night.
Additionally, I would think Donna could use some help in finding the best means of transportation from the airport to the hotel, and from the hotel to the cruise ship?
BTW, we cruised on Millennium in 2001. Had a great time. Food and service outstanding, and the ship is beautiful. Although I hate to pay extra for food on a cruise ship, we ate in the specialty dining room, and I would recommend making reservations for one evening -- it's a coat & tie place, and it was a great experience.
Anyone?

You will need to take a water taxi-a vaporetto...
Below are websites to get in touch with the shuttle service:
http://www.rome-shuttle.com/venice_shuttle.htm
http://www.venicewelcome.com/servizi/taxi/watertaxi.htm
http://www.tours-italy.com/venice/ma...lo_airport.htm
Personally, I would book something now..But you also need to know the DOCK where you will pick up your ship..Your cruise line will be able to tell you that...
Directions to cruise terminal:
http://www.vtp.it/pages/comeRaggiung...ociere.jsp?n=0
http://www.vtp.it/pages/comeRaggiung...X7I&n=null
and another vaporetto company:
Here is more info:
Transport Information
Venice (Marco Polo) Airport
041 2606111
Location: approx 7.5 miles from Venice by land, 6 miles from Venice by water.
By Water:
Arrive in Venice is style! Complimentary buses take you from the airport to a water taxi pick up point at the airport ‘lido’. From here you can catch a water taxi to Venice. Journey time is 40 minutes with an approximate cost of €10.
By Bus :
A bus service operates every 20-30 minutes to Venice (no 5 bus) , Padua & Mestre Railway Station(no 15 bus).
Buses also operate to Pordenone/Aviano:
Bibione, Caorle, Eraclea Mare, Lido di Jesolo, San Donà di Piave and various other destinations.
By Train:
Take the shuttle bus from the Airport to Mestre railway station (no 15 bus) or Venice-Santa Lucia station (no 5 bus) and catch a train from here.
By Taxi:
Taxis are available from the airport arrivals area
With all your luggage for the cruise , I would definitely go with a private water taxi...

There are at least three places in Venezia where cruise ships berth. Only your ship's operators will be be able to tell you where your ship will be berthed. However, all the berths are around the old city, so it will be easy to get from any hotel to the ship.

Thanks for all of your helpful information, especially the web sites. Unfortunately, over here ( Australia ) many businesses are still on holidays. When I rang Celebrity Cruises, they were unable to tell me exactly which dock the ship will be at. Hopefully, next week, someone will be able to help.
Thanks again

Venice is really a different place. You won't want to stay at any place near the airport. This is what we have done twice when we've sailed from Venice. There are many more solutions too!
We took a land taxi from the airport to the R.Roma (the terminal for the buses and the end of the road before the canals begin). From there we stashed our luggage and walked about 5 blocks to a budget hotel. The day we embarked we walked back to the P.Roma and caught a $10 cab ride to the ship.
The other time we took a land taxi right to the ship as we were staying overnight on the ship. It was about $25 or less for the land taxi.
If you stay closer to the center, you will need to take a water bus or a water taxi ($$$) to San Marco and then walk to your hotel. We spent 4 nights here another time during a low season in March and loved the location.
Better check on your hotel ASAP because Venice can be very very expensive. There are some cheap windows for low season, but they are few and far between - sometimes just a couple of days.
You will love Venice! But read a lot about it and be prepared for a totally new experience.
