Castle View Guest House -Edinburgh

I have seen several posts about this B & B in the heart of Edinburgh. Can anyone who has stayed there comment on the amount of street noise that we might encounter at this establishment? My husband has trouble sleeping if it is at all noisy and since we will be visiting in the summer I presume we will have the windows open.

I have stayed there and have sent friends and clients. There is very little noise because it is 1) on the two top floors of the building, 2) on a street that dead ends so there is little street traffic, and 3) adjacent to pedestrianized Rose street w/o any cars except delivery vehicles.

There can sometimes be a little revelry at some of the pubs and restaurants on Rose Street - especially when there are big sporting events on the telly. But even if there is, that usually ends by 11PM.

The ONLY downside to castle View is you must be fit to stay there - there is no elevator and it is three flights up to the main floor and four flights to most of the bedrooms. But they will come down to the street and carry your bags for you.

With good reason it is one of the most popular B&Bs in Edinbrugh

I stayed at the Castle View last June, at the beginning and end of a three week holiday. It is 72 steps to the first level. I was fit when I started my trip but could barely make it up the steps at the end of my stay. They do not necessarily help with your luggage. The family rooms are fine but the single is a dinky room that is so poorly arranged as if to make it even smaller - the bed is practically on the floor, the only window (and in a cobbled up corner at that) gets the bar noise from Rose St, there is no place to open a suitcase. The place is clean and the breakfast is okay.

Simone: it is quite obvious that Traveler and HER HUSBAND would not get the only single in Castleview. All of the doubles are extremely nice. The single is indeed stuck in a corner, but all the other rooms are great. I have never heard off an instance where they would not carry luggage up. Once in a while there is a delay if the husband or teenaged son are not available when you arrive. But they will ALWAYS tote the stuff up if you want them to.
