Cassis Hotels

Hello. My husband and I are going to Cassis next month w/our 10 month old. We're booked at the Roches-Blanches but I have since read some pretty negative reviews - on here and on Trip Advisor. We've just found a room for 100 euros less at Hotel La Rade, which is in town. The downside would be that they can only give us a balcony (not a terrace as we'd have at Roches blanches) and no sea view, but I would love to know if anyone would highly recommend this hotel. Thank you in advance for your replies.

Don't know the La Rade but we have stayed two or three times at Roches-Blanches and love it. We've always had a room in the main building on the second floor with a terrace overlooking the Cap de canaille. the views of the cap and the harbor are fantastic. they've done some remodeling and the rooms have been redone a bit. It's actually one of our favorite hotels. Lovely infinity pool. Don't know what people might be crabbing about.

Thank you for your response. Good to hear you've had good experiences there. We have to change rooms while we're there (due to late booking) but they are same price, both w/sea views and terraces, so I am curious as well as nervous as to what the difference might be b/t the two. Can you tell me if you think it will be a good place for a baby? Are the rooms spacious and clean? Also, I heard that they tell you not to leave windows open at night due to security issues. Is the walk into town easy enough (we'll have a stroller, of course, and are accustomed to lots of walking).

Bathrooms were small but rooms were big enough. Deck/terrace could be a problem. I don't recall how high the railings were but if your baby isn't crawling, that shouldn't pose a problem. the walk back from town will be a bit long and it is uphill. I think we always took our car for dinners. There is parking, but they use every inch so it can take some time to get the car out each time you leave.

Thank you for the details. Our baby is crawling and pulling self up like crazy, but I don't imagine that that the guardrails are that low on any terrace. Do you need to reserve parking in advance, b/c we will have our car. Also, do you think we can walk out at night or is this not adviseable? We don't mind the distance but I wonder about thieves, etc. I am from NYC but for some reason I find small towns more suspect (when it's *too* quiet...)Thanks.

No need to reserve parking. I think they presume all of their guests come by car. Unless things have changed dramatically in the last couple of years, you can walk about in Cassis and up the hill to the Roches Blanches without concern about your personal safety.

Hi! We stayed at Hotel La Rade 2 years ago. Remember that Roches-Blanches is a 4* vs La Rade which is a 3*. La Rade suited our needs. Rooms as well as bathrooms were in the smallish side but they were clean and well maintained. Our room faced the street but there was hardly any traffic so it was quiet. The hotel has a swimming pool, a small parking area and is within walking distance to the port. We felt safe walking back after dinner at 10 pm (my son was 8 yrs old then). BTW, as far as view is concerned, the sea can hardly be seen from most rooms because it is not really near the water.

Forgot to answer your question re if anybody would recommend this hotel. Yes I would recommend it. It is a simple hotel, unpretentious and good for a couple of nights stay. We had no expectations here and it suited our needs.

We stayed at Le Roches-Blanches as part of our honeymoon three years ago. Absolutely loved the place. We were there in August, and it was very quiet and serene. The town of Cassis is a small little fishing village. My wife and I never moved our car unless to make day trips elsewhere. It is a little hilly, but not too bad.

We stayed in one of the rooms on the top floor with the walkout balcony. It adjoins to the room next door. The room itself was huge, but I can't recall much about the bathrooms (most have been adequate). We slept with our balcony door open every night.

The pool area just adds to the place. The infintiy pool takes you up to edge of the main cliff. You can float there and look down on the bay and the Cap de canaille. Sitting by their pool is half the reason for staying there. There are mini-cliffs just below the pool area that you can jump into the sea from.

I'd also recommend at least one dinner in the hotel. The meal is nicely accompanied by many extras. During apps and your main courses and women is constantly coming by with a selection of steaming breads and rolls. For dessert they roll out this huge cheese cart and a dessert cart. You point to what you want. We spent almost as much time enjoying their cheese selection as we did on our main course.

Our stay there ranks as one of my favorite locales in Europe.
