Carte Orange - Yet Again
In the past we have stayed in the 7er and have bought a Carte Orange for zones 1-2. We will soon head to Paris and will be staying in La Defense (metro : Grande Arch - end of Line 1). I have looked (sqinted) at the RATP site trying to determine if this stop is in Zone 2 or Zone 3 and frankly I can not tell. Does anyone know? I assume I can buy a Carte Orange for zones 1-3 for 20.30 Euros or at least that is what the RATP web site says. Thanks for your help.

If I could type. It will save a little money 15.40 euro for 1-2 zones vs. 20.30 euro for 1-3 zones or 9.80 euros for two carte orange. Now we will splurge big time. Seriously, thanks again.

I thought the zones applied only to the RER because you have to use your ticket to enter AND leave the RER, while with the métro you need the ticket only to enter, so the 1-2 Carte Orange is good for anywhere the regular métro travels.
Yeah, I was wondering why someone would pick a hotel way out there. Perhaps there's a good reason.

The zones do really only apply to the RER, not the metro. A basic metro ticket will take you to any metro stop, regardless of what zone it is in (and some are in zone 3, I believe). This used to be called "zone urbaine", I believe, on the ticket, which represented where the metro went. However, if you buy a Carte Orange, even for metros only, you do have to specify zone numbers, so zones 1-2 should do it for the metro.

Christina - are you certain of that? While it is only required to use one's ticket on entry to Metro (as opposed to entry and exit with RER) I thought that a zone 1-2 pass will not allow the holder to enter a Metro stop outside zone 2.

Wow - and all this time I was under the impression that the zone scheme applied to all forms of transport. Guess I have contributed a few extra francs/euros to RATP over the years! It really is not clear on the RATP site - they caution to be sure when choosing a pass to include all zones that one will transit (not just origin and destination) using an example of RER transport, but nowhere that I can see do they mention Metro.
