Hi jelopez33! We are going with friends and their two kids so we are thinking of either early April or end of June/first week of July to Capri and Positano. How would you think of crowds and weather at that time. Also, would you know of a apartment/villa we can rent in Positano and Capri? Thanks for your input

We spent several days visiting Capri the last week of September, 2010 and the weather couldn't have been more beautiful. It was warm and sunny - not hot at all. The only weather-related issue was that the sea was to rough for a visit to the Blue Grotto. Otherwise, perfect.

April is too early - not yet beach weather - that arrives in mid ti late May and lasts usually to the end of Sept.
And no there is no train on the Amalfi coast. You can take the train to Naples and swith to a local for Sorrento and take the bus from there. Or you can take the train to Salerno (south end) and pick up a bus. Ferries run along the coast - but schedules differ by time of year and how rough the water is. If you are going off season you may prefer a car (that's what we do in May ) but you have ot make sure your hotel has parking (few do).

Hi Lady: Definitely; weather better in june july; but more crowds of course.I think you have discarded september which is a very good month; but so are things; I think that end of june is better than july.I regret I cannot help about apartments, as we were in a hotel in Amalfi, and made a day trip to Capri. No doubts you will enjoy yor visit; Pompeii and/or Paestum almost mandatory. We are planning a new visit in 2013!!!!.Enjoy!!!!

Hi jelopez33, thank you for your reply. We definitely plan on visiting Pompeii while there. When in September would you recommend as far as early or later in the month. We were thinking last week June/first in July timeframe.

Hi Lady: I think all september is really good, may be last days nor really suitable for going to the beach, but really optimum for outdoor activities.
I saw you started another post about june/july; and I think that en of june is better, may be july too much hot.
