You might want to see what comes up on Hotwire. We're staying at the Hilton Paris next month for a ridiculously low rate with Hotwire.

If you take a look at Betterbidding.com, you might be able to ascertain the exact hotel. You can also often figure out the hotels by shopping the packages on Hotwire, if you're familiar with the Hotwire Paris areas.

djkbooks, I do see a 4 * hotel near CDG for $168. Did you get something similar?

TripQs,

Several years ago we stayed at the Hotel Balmoral, less than block from the Arc de Triomphe in the 17th. We were pleased with the hotel.

I just looked at their website an they seem to have some special offers at the moment.

At any rate, it's another possibility for you.

Why stay at a 4* near CDG? Awfully far out (in my oh-so-humble opinion).

The getting to and fro is problematical. I will be corrected on my opinion about this though.

Unless you're connecting to something for a train, I'd not want to say too near a train station either.

Don't confuse the trains with the Metro's which will get you around town beautifully.

Thank you everyone. I am debating between Hotel de France Invalides and the $168 4 * hotel near CDG on hotwire.

SuzieCII, you are right. A look at the map shows how far it is. So Hotel de France Invalides it is.

I would have also urged you NOT to book a CDG hotel.

I love the 7th and think you will be very pleased with Hotel de France Invalides.

Take a look at www.accorhotels.com just to see availability. Since they own about 100 hotels in Paris, if none of them are showing rooms, you're in trouble, except in the one-star category without websites or reservation centrals. For example, in my own neighborhood (metro Marx Dormoy), I'm sure there is no problem to find a room for next month, but you would have to be satisfied with 'rustic' (50€ for double room with bath and TV).

Well...I know that it is very unpopular with a lot of posters to stay outside the central area, but my son and I just stayed at Oceania Versailles. It was only about 150.00 USD per night; the staff were wonderful! They had excellent information for everything we needed. The room was a little small, but the bathroom was HUGE! The Metro station was a short 5 minute walk and we got into city centre easily. We had breakfast (included in rate) with service in a lovely garden overlooking the pool and whirlpool. (You can also eat in if desired.)
We have been in many different hotels on this trip (15 days through Europe) and honestly that hotel was my favorite. Ironically, it was the one I almost cancelled b/c of the location.

just to reitirate, you should not be looking for something close to a "train station", but rather a metro stop. big difference areas near actual train stations (i.e. trains to other cities) are not very nice to put it nicely.

Iss1:

I read your post when you were thinking of cancelling your reservation at that hotel. Isn't it interesting how what appeals to some travellers do not to others? Glad to hear you enjoyed your stay there. Sounds like it was just perfect for you.

As for myself, I like to be RIGHT AT a metro station. My favorite hotels have been right above or across the street from a metro -- no walking down the block or 15 minutes away. I have always stayed within the Paris city center so that when I do want to walk to various attractions, I can. However, I can see the attraction of paying less for a hotel farther out. If it is near a metro station, no problem...

Hotel Le Clement
6, rue Clement

I've stayed there for years. It's in the 6th and one block south of Blvd. St.Germain and a half a block east of rue de Seine...right on metro Line 10 and a few blcoks from metro Line 4. It's across from the Marche St.Germain. Try to request a room on a high florr and facing the street. I'm a light sleeper, but it wasn't that noisy as it's on a square. Good luck. Happy Travels!

Trips

Glad to be of help, I'm delighted you got a room at HOtel De France Invalides, its in a great area, very convenient to everywhere, the metro stop is only about 5mins stroll away, your nearest station will be École Militaire. You are only 10 mins walk from the Eiffel Tower, and you have a beautiful view of the Dome Napoleon's tomb. Try to make time to visit Les Invalides hospital, if you can, its a fabulous place. I hope you have as much fun in Paris as we always do, we stayed in Hotel De France Invalides loads of times, and always enjoy it.

Good Luck

Thank you Lucie. We are really looking forward to our trip. I didn't get any email from parishotels.com, so I emailed the hotel and heard back from the manager letting me know that we are all set... off to a good start.
