Can I print and fax back to US from internet cafes in ITALY??

OK - this sis probably a really dumb question - but I have only checked e-mails from internet cafes when I've been in other countries. I have a real estate deal pending and if we don't get the offer before I leave on Sunday for Florence - my realtor wants to know if he can e-mail me the contract - have me print it off- sign it and fax it back to him in the US. I would assume I can but since I've never done it I'd like to be sure before I tell him we can. I know some of you will know for sure. Thanks once again for the help with this trip!!!!

I have not seen printers and fax machines in the cafes I've been in, but maybe someone can help with that. I would, however ask the hotels you will be in. They may be able to accomodate you with the set up they have in their office.

You might also consider printing it out, signing it, having it scanned and e-mailed back as a PDF file.

I yet have to find an office without a fax machine. I doubt such a thing even exists. You honestly think there could be a problem if you just ask nicely??

Have your realtor print out the contract at his end, FAX it to you at your hotel, and then you FAX it back to him.

This is how we used to do these things in the "old days."

You could waste hours...days...looking for a cafe with a printer and fax. Jean has good advice.

yes, of course - just maybe not in the same place even the little internet cafe in our out-of-the-way southern town has a printer...every hotel I've been in has had a fax machine that you could ask to use.

A faxed signature? My last office (law office) did real estate transactions and faxed signatures weren't valid/legal . The document could be faxed to the person that needed to sign, but then the signed copy had to be overnighted. You could have your attorney draw up a POA for this transaction before you leave.

I still have to find an Internet cafe that does NOT have printing and faxing capabilities as well.

What I have yet to find is a lawyer that would advise a client that a faxed signed real estate contract is a valid piece of document. May be for some reference or application(s), but a real estate deal is only closed when notarized and properly filed with town/local real property authorities. You need the ORIGINAL for that.

Truth is, it is a borderline dumb question...sorry.

Not a dumb question at all. I'm currently doing two long-distance real estate deals and faxing documents with signatures is common. Especially in resort towns, where people are selling their vacation homes from their primary home location.

I forgot to clarify: the poster is talking about an offer on their place. Not closing documents.

The "dumb question" comment refers to the only question posed by the OP-- "Can I print and fax back to US from internet cafes in ITALY??"--The side commentary on real estate are gratuitous.

It's really not a dumb question at all. In many places (TX for example) real estate contracts are simple transactions. They constitute an agreement to buy or sell, but do not close the deal. A signed/faxed copy if standard practice and perfectly legit.

Closing must be done with notaries present to witness all signatures. In some states a lawyer must be present at closing for all parties (buyer, seller, mortgage co), at substantial added cost.

Of course an attorney would not recommend that practice - they collect no fee on the buying or selling end.

If an internet cafe of "internetpoint" doesn't have FAX capacity, it is likely that your hotel does.

ONCE AGAIN-- the dumb question remark has NOTHING TO DO WITH THE REAL ESTATE COMMENTS.

Regardless, Viajero2, it is NOT a dumb question. The poster has a legitimate need for a timely way to send paperwork to the states. I wonder what an establishment would charge to fax to the States.

In any event, the poster is probably back from Italy by now, and can tell us how it worked out.
