Calling Stu: Question about Obidos, Portugal hotels

Hi Stu,

I'm not sure if you have seen my last posting, so I'll repeat it here.

It sounds like the Hotel Estalagem de Convento is actually on the outside of the city wall. Do I understand you correctly that you passed through a hole in the wall for a shortcut into the village to avoid climbing up a steep hill to the main entrance? Did the hotel staff give you the tip about the shortcut, or did you have to stumble across it on your own? If so, I hope they haven't sealed it up before we arrive!

We are also considering Hotel Real D'Obidos, but I'm not sure which hotel would be closer to the village without steep climbing.

One image is worth 1000 words

Obidos' "hole in the wall". There's no need of technical equipment to cross over.

The hotel is very easy to access and not up any hill--we have stayed there twice and like it.

Bob the Navigator.....thank you for setting us straight. Fortunately, in my Obidos hotel posting, Stu had replied to check his photo of the doorway on his web link, it clearly shows that it is an arched doorway made of stone. We look forward to our visit to Obidos!

Lobo....LOL!(Is this the entrance to your Lisbon home!?)
Stu

Tha was pure tongue in cheek as you now know, Italy_Four...Bob. I'm sure you used that "hole" too...makes a heckuva difference.

Sorry to hijack this post....

Tower, would you please give me more details on your combination of Hurtigruten cruise and driving trip in Northern Norway? Where did you stay? Did you make reservations for lodgings before you leave? I can't seemed to be able to find the fishing town "A" on Loften Island on the map. Thanks. Hope you see this post.

Hi Italy_Four,

The "Estalagem do Convento" and the "Hotel Real D`Obidos" are one beside the other (immediate neighbors) and are both located outside of the walls of Obidos. Nevertheless it is just a 2-3 minutes walk to enter into the town (through the wall), so you are within an excellent location.

Antonio:
...thank you for blasting that hole in the wall...made our visit that much more pleaseurable. I hope Estalagem and Real at least paid for your time and materials. Sorry that you have only two fingers left on your right hand.
