L'Hotel restaurant - Paris

I did a quick forum search, and haven't found any reviews. So I thought I'd write my own!

This fabulous restaurant is my latest "find" during a recent spring trip to Paris. If you are a foodie like me, I only have two words. JUST GO!

First, the hotel is simply gorgeous. You walk in and feel like you are in some place really special. That is because you are. Frankly, I've been to Paris so many times now (it's a home away from home for me) that I dare say I've become somewhat jaded (oh for shame) and it takes a lot these days to WOW me. I should say that I go to Paris mostly for the food. And the wine.

That said, I pretty much suck at writing about food. I like to eat it instead!

I was there for dinner on a Friday night, having reserved a few days prior. Comme d'habitude I ordered a coupe de champagne brut. The amuse was a fennel mouse with black truffles. WOW. This knocked my socks off. Or it would have, but I wasn't wearing any. I skipped an entree. My plat was a pigeon cooked in a cocotte, with gnocchis swimming in a parmesan and black truffle sauce. Again, simply fantastic. My dinner wine was a red Bouge St Joeseph (I never heard of it either).

Dessert was hands down the best tiramisu I've ever had in my life. My dessert wine was a Maury 1980 (again never heard of that one), and the waiter commented that it was his birth year.

A second round of desserts was brought forth consisting of petit fours and marshmellows. I skipped coffee, and had another coupe de champagne instead.

Service was flawless. I should say that this resto would be a great place for a "romantic" evening, but I prefer to go to Paris solo, and I was treated very well (as usual).

It goes without saying that I will be returning to L'Hotel many more times!

(PS I've tagged this "trip report" - too bad there isn't a "food report" tag - hint to Fodor's)

Sounds great! Thanks for posting. What was the price of this repast?

We've passed L'Hotel many times as we stay just up the street from there on rue Jacob. I'd never thought to try the restaurant. If they serve pigeon , I will have to make sure my husband gets there.

I just dug through my reciepts - it was 103.5 euro. Pretty reasonable, IMO with two glasses of champagne, two glasses of wine, a plat and dessert.

Hi rue,

I see from their website that they have a Michelin*,

Rooms from 250E in the low season.

Lunch is 52 € per person for
Starter + Main course + Dessert of the day
Le Café et les Petits Fours

Dinner menu is 95E + wine.

Pigeon + dessert is 63E

Not unreasonable.

Hi Ira, I've read your food reports, I think L'Hotel would be to your liking.

With the fantastic service I had, I would not be at all surprised if they earned a 2nd*.

For me, the best bet is to just head for the fantastic cocktail lounge for a drink...with a long look at the amazing staircase just inside the entrance.

Last we were there, they'd let you take a look at all the unoccupied rooms, and we were incredibly lucky to be able to see Oscar Wilde's room!

Actually, I liked the place so much I went back the next night for after dinner drinks in the lounge. I didn't ask to see the Oscar Wilde room though, maybe next time!
