Another Restaurant Question about Paris - Allard, Chez Catherine, Cafe Constant, Rue Balzac

Hi,
Trying to decide on Paris dinner. This is a two part question, for those who can help..

1. Which of these restaurants would you eat at and why?
2. What are some "Typical" entrees we would find at these?
3. What are the price points (with wine) for two people..

Thank you!

Their menus are posted in
bestreasurantsparis.com

From what I read, I'd try Rue Balzac, maybe Johnny Holliday would come by...
LOL

Allard looks great as well

Suzie,
This link does not work. I even tried "doctoring" it up a little to no avail.

I really like Allard, which has stood the test of time as a typical Parisian bistro.

I especially recommend the salad of mache, beets, and a wonderful dressing. I've only tasted (but will definitely order next time) the duck which comes absolutely smothered in olives. I think a prix fixe meal (inc. entree, main course, and either dessert or cheese) is around 33 euro pp, not including wine.

Their Paris Brest is a delicious dessert!

I really liked Allard also, we have the menu from the night we ate there on our anniversary. We ate there a couple more times since, always good meals. My favorite is roast chicken, sauteed cepes, tarte tatin.
I am afraid I cannot remember prices at all.
Cafe Constant was right around the corner from us last spring, we had a bite in the afternoon, the menu is meat loaded so we had something light and wine.
It was very pleasant and the place is pretty, I would try it again.

Another vote for Allard. My typical dinner there is escargot, rabbit stew, and charlot au chocolat for dessert. Always wonderful.

Do be prepared to join many other tourists for dinner.

Hello Jenni, I ate at Cafe Constant the 3rd and 15th of this month and really enjoyed it! I was with my daughter and our meal was 84E one night and 85E the next. We both had entree, plat, dessert, coffee and a bottle of wine for both meals. It is a fun cozy place and seems to be very popular with the locals. Also good is Le Petit Troquet. Happy dining!! lynda

Allard - hands down. It's "typique" in decor with zinc bar, consistantly delicious and their canard aux olives is to die for. And I don't usually enjoy duck!
Each and every time we come to Paris, it is a must stop.

Call ahead or have your concierge arrange for you.

Had a delightful lunch at Cafe Constant (Ille flotante!)and Allard's Boeuf Bourguinnon was outstanding. Larger portions at Allard, and it seemed more traditional and a little higher priced. I would return to both.

Allard is strictly a tourist joint, god-awful IMHO; it should never be compared with one of the Constant ventures. Check with Chowhound for more input.

The OP asked this question in 2006, guys...

Having said that, I will say that despite some negative comments about Allard on this site, I _insisted_ on eating there in January. I liked the traditional atmosphere, and I was sure the food would be bistro-perfect.

Big mistake; worst meal of the trip. Never again.

I'm very glad to hear updated information as our last experience with Allard was 2004.
