Tell me why you love Lisbon and the rest of Portugal!

Heading to Portugal this summer and will spend time in Lisbon and Porto. We may plan a few days on the beach. I would be interested in knowing what other posters love about Portugal. If you have been more than once, what is it that makes you return?

I was in Portugal last month for the second time. Loved Sintra, especially the gardens of the Quinta Regaleira, but my favourite thing was the fado at A Cappella in Coimbra. The singer sounded a lot like Paul Potts and the acoustics in the small chapel were amazing. I could have gone back and listened to him every night.

If you are interested in lovely hotels go to Pousadas.pt.. There are some great places and great deals. Summer time may not be the best $ wise but at any time PT. is tops. A wonderful drive into a completely unspoiled area is south of Setubal along the coast to Porta Cova..A protected area and awesome ocean vista but again Summer will be crowded. the Douro is equally as lovely..And try gingha (sp) a cherry brandy.Wow.. have a great time..

Type in Lisbon in the Search the Forum box and you will see some of the more recent replies to that question.

travelme: please search on my posts from late 2008: Portugal for Dummies, and Portual, an Oddessy. Story and photos about why we love portugal and are going again this autumn. Great folks, lots of history, wonderful scenery, etc. Roads are good, Posaudas very predictable (no nasty surprises), local food interesting, etc.
