Budget hotel in Geneva

Can anyone recommend a budget hotel in Geneva for a single room? I have found a few outside the city, but I prefer to be closer to the center. I am hoping to find something for less than $80USD per night. If this is the impossible dream, please tell me what's the next best thing. Thanks, I value your input.

Not knowing your other plans this may or may not be helpful. If you have to go outside the city instead of staying on the outskirts of Geneva, you might want to check out Lausanne or Vevey (an hour by train along the lake) which are wonderful towns. I know Vevey has a youth hostel right off the town square along the lake quai. Geneva is notoriously expensive.

Thanks, Suze, I'll give that some thought if I don't find anything suitable in Geneva. In the meantime, I hope to hear from others.

I've stayed in the City Hostel in Geneva and it is close to the train station and very clean. While they don't have private bathrooms there are sinks in each rooms and they offer private single rooms for 58sfr/pn.

Well, I checked it out and it's already booked for the dates I need. Thanks anyway, it must be a great deal to book up this far in advance. Any other suggestions are welcome.

Nidwalner Chris, I looked at the web page again and was able to book a private room on the dates I needed. Not sure what happened the first time, but I have a reservation now. Thanks for your advice, you have saved me a lot of money.

P_M - Did you stay in the hostel? How was it? How was the area?

WOW, this must be one of my very first posts.

Hello ky, actually I ended up staying at a hotel nearby. I skipped the hostel because I found a hotel nearby which was still under budget. I'll search for my trip report later, I don't remember the name of the hotel offhand. I do remember it cost 90 CHF which then was around $80.

I looked for your trip report since you usually do them, but couldn't find it. I'm flying into Zurich this trip, but will probably fly into Geneva or Basel next trip so would like a budget hotel before flying out.

I did do a trip report but it's so buried I don't know if I can find it either. Later tonight I'll take a look at hotels near the train station. If I see the name of the hotel I think it will come back to me.

Got it ky, it was called Tryp de Berne. It was an OK place for just one night. Of course that was 6 years ago so I hope it's still OK.
