What not to miss on the castles road from Rothenburg to Heidleberg

We will stay in Rothenburg for two days and then drive the castles road to Heidleberg. What are the interesting places that are worth to make a stop? Which town is a good place to stop for lunch?

Hi J,

I suggest that you plot the trip using the sightseeing option at www.viamichelin.com.

Include as waypoints Schwabisch Hall and Ammertsweiler. Very pretty countryside.

Definitely don't miss Bad Wimpfen. Stunning little town with great half-timbered architecture and nice cafes, etc.

Agree with the suggestions of Bad Wimpfen and Schwabisch Hall. Both are lovely and can be seen in a short time. Many photo ops!

Ditto Bad Wimpfen and Schwaebisch Hall, both gorgeous towns that can be toured in an hour or 2 and have nice cafes and restaurants. Bad Wimpfen has spectacular views of the Neckar valley; Schwaebisch Hall has a river running through it and a lovely park for strolling. Both have gorgeous half-timbered architecture.

I should point out that neither has a castle, per se!

Thank you for the advice. I think we'll stop at Bad Wimpfen and Schwaebisch Hall. I don't mind there is no castle because we'll visit some castles along the Rhine valley on our last two days of our trip.

Any suggestion for a good place for lunch at Bad Wimpfen?

Hirschhorn Castle is a great place for lunch. There's a huge dining terrace overlooking the river at this castle/hotel.

Actually, in Bad Wimpfen, there is a lovely ruin of the Imperial Palace as well as the 13th century Blue Tower:
