Swiss Help - Geneva area
Hello friends of (& friends in) Switzerland! I am attempting to help a girlfriend plan the last few days of a trip this summer. Earlier she will have spent time in Paris and gone on a 1-week barge trip thru French wine country.
1) Any idea how a person gets themselves from Beaune, France (where the boat trip ends) to either Geneva or Lausanne (without rental car)? Appears Dijon is the closest larger city?
2) Hotel recommendations (3-star 135-170 CHF range) in Lausanne? Or Geneva or Morges? This is during the Montreux Jazz Festival so I hesitate to send her to Vevey or Montreux.
3) Flight home is an 11am out of Geneva and she is comfortable with the idea of taking the train in that morning.
Thanks a million for any insight you can provide.

Hi suze,
How about Morges? There is a lovely three-star there right on the pedestrian center a block from the lake: www.hotelcouronnemorges.ch. Morges isn't far from Geneva (as you know!) and is just lovely.
For transportation, have you checked at www.rail.ch? I get a journey of 3h30 to 5h, with one, two, or three changes. Pretty straight forward.
Good luck!

I stayed in Vevey during the jazz festival. It didn't seem to be an issue until I went to Montreux. I stayed at Hotel Negociants. I highly recommend it.
In Geneva I've stayed twice at the Suisse Hotel, right across from the train station. It's a comfortable, reasonably priced hotel.

Catbert, Thanks for the details. That is excellent information that Vevey isn't necessarily filled up during the Jazz Festival.
And I've already passed on the suggestion for Hotel Suisse near the train station in Geneva. If she doesn't want to do a morning train ride her last day, a combination of these two hotels might just be the ticket. Thank you!
