Booking Train Tickets

I'm trying to book train tickets vis http://voyages-sncf.com from Paris Gare de Lyon to Avignon TGV. When I click on from there are choices of "Paris Gare de Lyon" and "Paris Gare de Lyon A". What is the difference between the two?

Hi cj,

I've looked at both the French and English sites, and don't find it.

How did you get there?

Hi ira,

I am using the English site. I clicked on Advanced Search, then typed Paris in the "Leaving from" spot, then clicked on "or Choose here" to make sure I had the correct station. The two choices are in the list that appears. Just a little nervous about making reservations and want to make sure I get everything correct.

Thanks for any help you might have.

On the English site you just have to enter the cities in "Leaving from' and 'Going to' and the other information of your journey. The system comes up automatically with the train stations: Avignon TGV or Avignon Centre.

I am wondering if Gare de Lyon A is an attached section of the station.

I believe this sort of "differentiation" sometimes comes up for the Montparnasse station as well.

Hi CJ,

I did it your way. All I get is GARE DE LYON BANLIEUE (75)

Anyway, there is no need to go to "advanced search".

I wonder whether the "A" is a designation for the section of the Gare de Lyon that's off to the left of the main station? In the past few years that's where our TGV to Aix has left from.

Underhill wrote exactly what i was thinking - the left appendage that is farther up the tracks and then to the left of the main part of the station.
the Gare de Lyon is a very congested station and with the explosion of TGV service moving trains in and out is a problem. That's one reason the night Artesia trains from Italy land in the Gare de Bercy about a half-mile up the tracks from the Gare de Lyon - because they have to sit so long coming and going it would take up valuable space in the Gare de Lyon.
The Gare de Lyon Banlieue is underground below the upper level main station and has suburban trains of the RER network and a metro tie-in. No TGVs would leave from there it seems.
