Booking my hotel
I'm new at this, so I may need lots of help. I'm planning a trip to Italy in the fall, and have almost everything taken care of now, but I need to make a hotel reservation for my arrival in Rome. I seem to have obtained the best rate through euro-hotels.com, but wonder if any of you have used them, and what your experience has been. Thanks in advance.

Don't know what your plans are - but would never stay at a hotel at the airport - unless its a very quick overnight before you fly out again early in the AM. Nowhere near the city - and torture/expensive to get back and forth to see anything in Rome.

NYTraveler--that's precisely what I'm doing--flying into Rome, and then off to see more of Italy and then returning to Rome to see as much of it as possible. I just want a place to rest and stretch my legs. Otherwise, I couldn't agree with you more, and thanks for your concern.

Bestmommiedearest really has two questions (I know this because I am bestdaughterdearest).
First, is euro-hotels.com reliable? If she pays for her hotel through this website, will the hotel honor it there when she shows up?
Second, does anybody have an idea where to get a better rate at the hotel?
Bestmommiedearest is flying into Rome a day early before she begins her Tauck tour the following morning. The tour actually begins early the following morning from the airport at which time they board a bus to head to Sorrento or someplace like that. It would be an extremely long day to fly to Rome from the west coast and then drive south. This way she will get in a day early, relax, maybe get a massage, some sleep etc. before the real trip begins. It is not worth it in this situation to stay in Rome away from the airport.
I know she will appreciate any advice you give her about booking this hotel through euro-hotels.com.
Thanks.

I can't tell you about that website but have just read all the reviews of this hotel on tripadvisor.com (not great but evidently the only hotel at the airport). It actually sounds like the best rates people got were either on the hotel's own website or at the reservation desk at terminal c at the airport! Here's a quote but it's a year old.

If you don't book the room ahead of time, I reccommend that you book it inside Terminal C at the little Hotel reservation desks. We only paid 135 EURO (aprox. $142) by booking there. If you go to the front desk of the Hotel, it is 220 euro to 280 euro. The rooms are extremely nice with just about everything you need (except an iron). They even have heated towel racks. The hotel offers a free shuttle bus to downtown Rome, but be careful because it fills fast for the trip back</b>
I can understand you may not want to chance not having a reservation ahead of time. I would call the hotel directly and ask what rate they will give you. I personally would not book through a third party website that requires payment ahead of time or has unusal cancellation fees.

I looked at the Hilton website and they have a single for 150E, pre-paid so if you feel that is safer I'd book thru them. Or try calling direct , I've often gotten better rates on the phone.
Hilton is a good airport choice, as they have a free shuttle into Rome if you are refreshed and feeling cooped up at the hotel.

Hi. Thanks for your replies, and thanks to bestdaughterdearest who spoke up for me--she's great, isn't she, folks?
It sounds like all of you who responded are less than enthusiastic about my using the euro-hotel.com website. I have made some direct calls, all of which ran considerably more, both in Euros and dollars. But maybe that will be the best--and safest. Any additional suggestions?

I second Jody about using the Hilton website if the price is at all comparable--and it sounds like it is--150 euros to 189 dollars--b/c an official confirmation from the hotel chain probably carries more weight in case of any problems.
