Yup I was very wary, but I loved it. i'm pretty squeamish but strangely enough, wasn't disgusted by any of it. It really was fascinating.

Is this the exhibit where they showed carved up bodies to allow folks to see what we all look like inside? I heard about it and was told it was pretty cool and not as gruesome as some might think

There was a post about this last week, but it was censored, for some reason. The same doctor behind BodyWorlds performed a public autopsy in London last week, which was controversial and, perhaps, illegal. The exhibit is fascinating. Kind of hard to find, if you are not familiar with the area.

This was actually on television. I was watching TV and and the listing came up with a small speech from the Doctor and I was amazed they would put something like his on UK TV. I was watching from Ireleand (we have BBC on cable here) I had to change as I haven't the stomach. Some people find it fascinating and an education on anatomy and the human body, others feel it's a freak show. Not my cup of tea but If you are4 interested go for it.

Thought it was interesting, but weird. The plastination (sp) technique must be helpful in the medical field, but his sculptures make me question his sanity. I would also comment on the location. When I was there in April/May, I was unfamiliar with the area. There were signs on some poles, but I lost track of them. Ended up overshooting the location, raised the interest of a person I believe to be a prostitute (I didn't return her friendliness), and found myself in a less than desirable area. But, I ultimately found my way and am glad I went.

I have heard that the gallery is in a rather rough area of the East End. The same Professor organised the first public disection in London in over 150 years last weekend.

That is what was on TV! Sorry I wasn't clear on that. I was really surprised to see the beginning as they were offering tickets in a lottery system to people standing outside and they would pay to see the autopsy if they were in the pool. Yuck

I couldn't believe that they handed round the dissected body parts on trays for the audience to look at!....! However, the whole thing was apparently legal and these events used to draw large crowds 300-400 years ago. Go figure!

Gee, I clicked on this thread because I thought BodyWorlds sounded like a chain of spas.

I was in London in July and went t ot see the BodyWorlds exhibit - if you are looking for something apart from your conventional museums then you will probably enjoy this exhibit. It was probably the most memorable exhibit that I've ever seen - its much harder to forget what a dissected human body looks like than what the Elgon Marbles (for example) looked like...
The only part of the exhibit that really disturbed me were the dead babies in jars near the end, but other than that it was....educational
