We stayed at this hotel for 4 nights last September and the location couldn't have been better, very resonable price, nice room and friendly staff: Hotel du Cardinal Rohan

We also stayed one night at Hotel Dragon and hated it so we moved.

We stayed at the Comfort Inn and enjoyed it. We had a triple but I don't know if they had rooms big enough for 5. The hotel is across the street from the river and the rooms were nice (at least ours was). Overall I thought it was a great value. It was very close to downtown, the cathedral etc. It was also very easy to get to.

Last summer we stayed at the Ibis Centre Ponts Couverts which is near the Old Covered Bridge and a short walk from the oldest part of town. We paid 49 Euro for each double. Rooms are very modern and clean but mighty small. I don't remember if anybody in our tour group had a triple but it might be worth asking.

Third vote for Rohan. Good location, right across from the cathedral so you can always find your way back by looking up. Friendly staff. Good restaurants nearby.
Good shopping within easy walk: Galeries Lafayette, Sephora, and lots of small shops.

I'll vote for the Hotel l'Europe, which is a nice 3* hotel in the Petite France section. It was great, and the location is very convenient (walking distance to the train station, and all tourist sites of major interest) but not as hectic as right around the cathedral. I have no idea if they have triples or not.

Hi: Went to the Hotel Rohan website. Their rates for 2 p;ersons are: Std Room 75 Euro; Comfort Room 140 Euro, Superior room 149 Euro.
The difference between Standard and Comfort is almost double?
Have any of you stayed in a Standard room: is it THAT different?

My wife and I were just at the Rohan three weeks ago. I booked at standard room and can't comment on the difference between the standard and comfort except that the standard double room was VERY small, which was fine with us as we only spent time in our room sleeping.
I will say that the location was excellent, as others have said. The people at the desk were pleasant and helpful, too.

We liked the Hotel Beaucour very much. The rooms were nice and the location convenient. It is right across the river from the cathedral, so perhaps a quieter locaton than Rohan. We went to Rohan to check it out as we had considered staying there. It was undergoing a huge renovaton a few months ago so we were glad we hadn't booked a room there at that time.

Thanks sshepard and and SuQue.
sshephard, was the standard room like an attic/eave room, or just a smaller than normal room. Enough room to keep 2 21" gabs on the floor w/o our bumpting into furniture avoiding them? And, importantly, was the air-conditioner sufficient to keep it COLD.
SuQue, have looked at Hotel Beaucour web site, and it looks like a good place also. Will ask question about sufficiency of A/C as DH likes it in high 60s, not middle 70s (F).
sshphard, also thanks for your money saving tips posting.
Best regards
Steve
