I don't understand this hotel, either, but it wasn't anything that special to me, so I won't stay there again, probably. I usually stay in other hotels where they will give you the kind of room your request. I don't think there is anything wrong with a hotel having a few special rooms with views and charging a little more for them, but allowing you to book them. I think that is normal, actually. I don't understand why the Muguet doesn't do that. I know of other hotels in Paris that do that, such as ones I mentioned on a recent thread with Notre Dame views -- they have posted rates for these rooms.

As for my room, I don't think they have anything that is truly a "single" in being only a twin-sized bed. The room I had was a very small room with a double bed. However, from the descriptions others have given on here about their rooms, it is pretty clear I was given an inferior room to others, as it was quite small, and I suspect it is one they give to single people.

I had read threads on here before about this, someone else said he had a room that he thought was used as a "single", which is why I specifically told her in an email I wanted a regular-sized double room and I didn't care about the price. The rates were modest, in any case, so that didn't matter to me. She did not respond in any way that this was a problem -- she did know there would only be one person in the room, as I told her that because there is a lower rate for single vs. double occupancy. I should have known not to have told her that from prior comments on here, probably. If I did it again, I would just book a double room, not mention there would be only one person, and if questioned upon arrival, say the other person couldn't make it. I've done that before as I know hotels often give single travelers the worst rooms--at least it's happened to me several times, but when I lie and say there will be two people, I have gotten better rooms upon arrival. Maybe it's a coincidence, but in this case, I don't think so.

For all the hotels I've inquired at, I have been requesting a double room for one person. What I've received are offers for either a double room for single use or a small double room. I'm not sure if these would be considered a "single" but I'm assuming that as the rate is lower than for a regular double and most times it's with shower only.

I give up on places like Muguet where they'll tell you it depends on availability when you check-in to get the room you request, that they don't promise specific rooms, etc. I figure if I am reserving practically 6 months in advance to even a year in advance what's the problem? Unless they are saving those better rooms for repeat guests. At other hotels you tell them what room type you want in advance and they do guarantee it. They even let you know what types there are that you can choose from even.
