Berlin: Hotels W/On-Site Laundry Facilities?
Hello! Am traveling to Berlin this Oct. & would really like to find a hotel with on-site washing machines & dryers, so I could wash my own clothes & cut down on the amount of clothes I'll need to pack. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I would LOVE to know this information as well. Bummed that there are no replies. I'm looking for the same and will let you know if I find anything. Wondering what the best area to stay in as well. I'll be there 5 days in September but not til 2019.

I've only ever stayed at one hotel (In Brighton) that had any self-service laundry facilities, and that was just ironing boards and irons in a room on the top floor, not washing machines. Most large hotels will collect and do laundry for you, I doubt many places if any will provide washing machines and driers for guests use though. If that's what you want you are better off booking an apartment.

Here is a blog about laundromats in Berlin. I can't vouch for its accuracy or whether it is up-to-date. You could always check with your hotel management.

The German word, so Google Translate tells me, is waschsalon .
On a Berlin trip a few years ago I found a neighbourhood waschsalon near my hotel. It was a pleasant place, with a coffee and baked goods bar and lots of help to get the machines running. I always build a restful trip to the laundry into my itinerary. Don't like splashing in sinks or socks dripping on radiators.

The big hostel chains like AO usually have on-site self-laundry facilities.
But unless you plan to stay there, you can just do a Google maps search for Waschsalon in the vicinity of your hotel.
Aside from the self-service only laundromats you can also drop off your clothes at dry cleaners.
It will be more costly than a laundromat.
And the costs increase the quicker you want it done.
The super low prices which dry cleaners advertise only apply when you're willing to wait several days.

A few years back we stayed in an Adina hotel/apartment - they have a number of hotels across Berlin.
Here is the first one we stayed in and our rooon/small apartment had a washing machine and dryer.
This is a full service hotel.

For interest we have also stayed in an hotel in Bamberg that had a laundry with machines and dryers - pretty unusual I think.

All the best with your planning.

love_travel_Aus THANK YOU SO MUCH - I was beginning to think such places didn't exist. And I see they have a whole group of places so hopefully I'll be able to find more in the other countries we are going to.
I hope the original poster found this - I'd still really like to know where they found to stay.

I had the same problem when we were in Berlin 3 years ago. Even the best hotels do not have self laundry facilities (like in most U.S. hotels). There are also very few laundromats in Berlin but I managed to find one with the help of the hotel clerk (I don't remember the name). Since then, I've found a way to locate a laundromat in every city that I've travelled to in Europe through yelp.com. All you have to do is type "laundromat" and the city and you'll get a list of places, with maps and additional information. I've done this in Spain, Italy and Austria. There aren't a lot of laundromats in Berlin because every apartment building has its own laundry facilities (so the hotel clerk explained).
Here's the link for Berlin: https://www.yelp.com/search?find_des...C+Germany&ns=1
You might need exact change - it depends but some of the places that I used had a machine that made change.
Good luck.

Huh? Where? Very few US hotels have self serve laundry facilities. Long stay, some inexpensive chains, and maybe some family resort areas - yes. But for instance in my large city not one of the major hotels has an on-site laundromat.

I'm sorry, but most US hotels do NOT have self-service laundry facilities in them. I have no idea where you have been staying, but that is not common at all. I saw one recently in a suites/residence type Marriott chain hotel I was staying at, but that is not the norm for a regular hotel in the US, let alone the best ones. In fact, the "best" hotels are the least likely ones to have such things.
Of course it is aparthotels that would have such things, not regular hotels. That's true anywhere.

My experience in the U.S. is different. I've been in large hotels in major cities and small hotels on road trips. They of them had at least one coin operated washer and dryer on the premise. Many larger hotels have several laundry rooms on different floors. I have never come across that in Europe so we use a laundromat.

That seems very (VERY) odd. I've stayed in hundreds of hotels in the USA and except for the sorts of places like I mentioned up thread virtually none have had self serve laundries. Yes - you will find them in some low-ish end chains or mom&pop motels, some places with mostly family rooms (like in Anaheim near Disneyland) and extended-stay properties. Where have you stayed in 'major large hotels' that have 'several' laundry rooms?

Janis, you probably have never looked for a washing machine in a hotel. Keep doing them in the sink. We have seen them often but we stay in low-ish end chains.
Thanks for the Adina Berlin tips. My husband is wanting to go badly.

I'm so happy for the Adina information! Thank you so much.
I only stay in US hotels with coin-operated laundry for guests.
Last year and this year my friend and I have traveled for 22 and 24 days in the U.S. - New England and 7 southern states - I stick with Hiltons and specifically choose hotels with "coin-operated laundry" in the amenities descriptions. It's been the best way for us to travel - we only do carry-on luggage and are able to wash stuff - even our gym clothes are clean. Hilton, Embassy Suites, Hampton Inn, Homewood Suites - big cities Boston - little cities Jackson MS, Brattleboro VT.
I totally get the meeting locals in a laundromat but when I did that in London it was not as fun as doing laundry in the hotel and hanging out in the living room or relax area of the hotel.
For Berlin, I've been enjoying having the reliability of hotels in the US and was really hoping to find Berlin hotels with laundry that were reliable and always had a front desk person. We need minimal amenities but it sure has been nice having someone to ask questions of. In the past we have always done apartments in Paris, Bruges, Belgium, other European cities - and while I enjoy the local feel of an apartment, it is an added layer of stress both in the planning and logistics of the trip, check-in coordination, hoping the place is as advertised (airbnb). That said we are planning a week in Rome next year and will definitely be looking for an apartment - if anyone has a favorite ;-)
