Berlin Hotel Location

Where would be a good location for a hotel in Berlin. I would like to be close to the subway line. And I would ideally like something cheap ~$100 a night.

I like the Berlin Mitte district, because you can walk to most attractions in historical east Berlin.

I used Priceline to get a cheap deal and was very fortunate to get the very convenient Westin Grand ($61 USD + taxes and fees/night). Of course you can't assume you will get any particular hotel when you use Priceline.

Check out http://www.hrs.de and http://www.hotels.de and see if you can find a good deal. If you find a hotel you like, post about it and someone can comment on its location.

Ben Haines has an economical Berlin hotel recommendation, so maybe search for his posts on the matter.

I recently stayed at the Movenpick for $65 through priceline. It's a 4 star, about 2 blocks from the Potsdamer Platz, and has an "S-Bahn" station 20 yards away. Great hotel, good location (in the "Kreuzberg" zone on priceline). Berlin has great transit which operates around the clock, so you're pretty much set anywhere in the city (although going too far east would be a little incovenient).

The Movenpick near Checkpoint Charlie would be a great location too.

While we'e talking abour Berlin Priceline wins I will be staying at the Alsterhof Hotel (won on the Priceline UK site for £30 per night) for three nights this weekend.

My initial research seems to suggest this hotel is on a good location and has excellent U-Bahn (Ausgburger plus a couple of stations) and S-Bahn (Soo station) links nearby.

Berlin is big but it sounds like getting around by public transport is very easy.

If you are prepared to try Priceline then it looks like you could get somewhere decent for well under your budget. Only downside is you can't target a specific hotel. When is your trip?

Please ignore all the ropey spellings in my previous post, in particular the Station names Augsburger and Zoo. Hopefully the rest you can work out!

If you're planning to use PL for a hotel, be sure to study, study, study at www.biddingfortravel.com before you bid. I recently have researched PL and BFT for Berlin hotels for our October 2004 trip. From looking at successful bids at BFT, it appeared that people who bid early got great deals, but last minute bidders did not. Look at the Berlin hotel list carefully too. The zone that contains the coveted Westin also contains a hotel way out in the east that you might end up with.

Try Hotel Berlin. No idea of rates stayed there 5-6 years ago. Easy walking to the main shopping street with the largest & nicest dep't store in all of Europe. There is a bus stop right near hotel to go anywhere and place isn't bad.
