Beaches in October?

I'm just wondering if the weather is warm enough to go swimming in October - either in Cinque Terre or the Amalfi Coast or both? I'd be traveling from Oct 5-26th. Does anyone know if it would be warm enough?

That depends on how warm you want the water to be.

It's not going to be nearly as warm as FL - but it won;t be s cold as Maine.

I want to be able to sit on the beach and sun tan and go in the water now and then. I don't mind if the water is cool. Do you think it would be warm enough for sun bathing?

Thanks!

Hi M,

>Do you think it would be warm enough for sun bathing?

Maybe. Weather in Oct changes from hot to cool, sunny and clear to rainy and foggy. You could get anything.

in theory, the more you go south, the more probable the weather will be nice... so amalfi should offer a better chance than 5t.

Thanks for your replies. Would you recommend that I go in September instead of October to be on the safe side? My husband and I don't want it to be too hot when we are sightseeing but would definitely like some beach time to relax now and then. We will be going for 3 weeks. Probably starting in Rome - going down the coast a bit - maybe to Capri then up to Florence, Tuscany, Cinque Terre, Venice etc.

Thanks for any information you can provide.

Amanda

Weather is unpredictable anywhere in the world. Two years ago my husband and I went to Bretagne the first week of October and it was warm enough to go to the beach in mid-day and even swim. The minute the sun went down it was freezing. You just never know. September should be warmer but it could be rainy too.

For many years we went to the Tuscan seaside in mid september, because we didn't want it to be too hot for the then small kids. 2nd half of September or maybe 1 week september/1 week october would be my choice.
