Is it too cold in October to go to Destin?

Hi,

I am planning a trip to Destin and I wonder if October is too cold to enjoy the beach in Destin area?

Thank you.

The averages on weather.com show an average high of 80 in October. I guess it depends where you are from whether you think that is cold.

October may well be the best time to travel to either the Gulf beaches or Carolina beaches, bar none.

That being said, if you are seeking July-like, bathwater-like water temps, that isn't happening, but the water will still be in the 70's, most likely. Great time for fishing as well.

October is still hurricane season, something to at least give some consideration to when traveling to FL.

We love going to Destin in October. Much less crowded than in the summer and there seem to be less jellyfish in the water because the temps are cooler.

I will be the first to admit that the whole 'worrying about hurricane season' bugs me a tad. It runs from what, April thru October or some such nonsense ? So, no one should go to the beach when the weather is its absolute best ? Not an issue I tend to worry about, when planning a vacation.

I live in the panhandle and own several properties on the Emerald Coast. October is my absolute favorite time to go to the beach! The air temps are perfect, the crowds are gone, and the water is still warm enough to enjoy swimming. Go! You will have a great time!!!
