Auto Rental Prices

I am looking to rent a midsized car for 15 days, pickup and dropoff at the Frankfurt Airport in June 3003. I will be taking the vehicle into the Czech Rep. as well as Poland. Prices thus far are $738 Auto Europe (Avis) and $646 prepaid with Hertz. These prices seem high realizing that it's extra to take the vehicle to "Central Europe" and that the rental companies financially are in the same boat as airlines. Would be interested in knowing what others have paid for a similar rental.

$369 per week give or take a day for summer is not bad for Europe. As I remember,AutoEurope includes a lot of the taxes/fees,right?I have headr of double that with NO fees/taxes.

Hi Tom,
You would be hard pressed to find a better deal than the $646 @ Hertz. I will be renting a car @ Hahn/Frankfurt airport in March and will pay $435 to drop it off in Paris. This rate is only for a week.

We did the same trip 2 years ago and had quite a bit cheaper rental using AutoEurope but we also had a smaller car. Out last 2 trips we've used Nova rental out of Ireland. We've been pleased and their prices have consistently been cheaper than Auto Europe.

Tom C,

Rex previously mentioned that AutoEurope lets you drop off a German rental in Strasburg and pick up a French one there, with no extra fees. Check it out. It might save you quite a bit.

Tom,
We rented from Hertz in Europe and would never do that again. I'd highly recommend going with anyone but Hertz.

Thanks for all the replys! I am waiting to hear from Hertz, in June 3003 I will be 1054 years old and they could not guarantee me wheelchair access.

I would hope that by June 3003 all terrestial vehicles will be relics and that Hertz, Avis, Europecar etc. will supply rental space capsules with turbo boosts. I also predict that by 3003 central Europe will be united as one country called Ricksteveslvania.

We also used Nova rental out of Ireland. It was the least expensive we found. But we were only in Germany and Austria, not Poland or Czech Rep. Another that seemed inexpensive was Ofram.

I think this is a really good price from Hertz.
We rented from Hertz in Sicily, France and Greece. Never had a problem and we always got a rate better than from Auto Europe or any other places. Maybe because we agree to prepay. You can always cancel with Hertz until one day before your arrival.

Is this for an automatic or manual transmission? The prices can be twice as much for an automatic. If you have someone that can drive manual, it will likely be even cheaper.

On the other hand, if noone drives manual, make sure this is not a manual car! There are evidently many more manual cars in Europe than automatic, so the price is much higher. In Ireland it was twice as much!
