Looking for good rental car deal

Hi, we're looking to rent a convertible in SF end of April and drop off in LA. Any ideas where I can get a good discount?

we just used www.hotwire.com to rent a car at SFO. Hotwire was about 40-50 dollars cheaper than Expedia or Orbitz for a one week rental.

That was a "standard" car. Others may know of something even cheaper than Hotwire. The rental agency turned out to be Hertz by the way.

1. You will find a one-way rental for a convertible will be a difficult thing to arrange, and quite expensive.

2. In April you will be cold.

Shop around with all the usual suspects or use kayak.com. After you find your best deal, make an offer on Pricline.com. This is where I have found the best rates and you often get Hertz or Avis instead of the other companies. It doesn't always work, but when it does the savings can be substantial.
