Anniversary dinner Paris

We will be in Paris just after our 35th wedding anniversary. I would like to surprise my husband with a dinner out. We are on a budget and will be with another couple so I don't want to break the bank, just something kind of romantic and characteristic and nice. I actually thought I wanted to renew our vows but after seeing all those horrible "Housewives of Orange Co./New York" renewing their vows, it ruined that thought. We are staying in the 7th and I am reading that thread about restaurants so would welcome a suggestion for one of the restaurants in the 7th, or elsewhere. Thanks!

We like Au Bon Accueil in the seventh. It is always a great meal at a very reasonable price. I believe it is a Bib Gourmand in the Michelin Guide....good food and a good value. I think they have a website and you would need reservations.

The 7ème is full of good restaurants: La Fontaine de Mars, Le Florimond, Au Bon Acceuil, Thoumieux, Bistro de Bretheuil, Auberge de Bretagne, and Christian Constant's places, plus lots more.
It would help if you could give some idea of what your ideal budget is.

Ideal budget? Free! Hahaha I have looked at Au Bon Acceuil's menu and it looks good. PLUS it is on the street where we have rented an apartment. Does anyone know if there is any way to let the restaurant know that this is a special anniversary and perhaps they could, I don't know, put a candle in a patisserie or something? I just want it to be a little special and I want my sweetie to know I planned ahead on this. Or is that idea just too American.

why do you feel the need to show off to others in a restaurant with a candle? Answer that question.

Huh? I guess that's just the kind of girl I am, a big show-off. Any other questions?

Two suggestions:
In the 5th, Le Coupe Chou.

And in the 7th, La Ferme Saint-Simon.

The restaurant staff is very accommodating. They couldn't seat us at the time of our reservation once and served us complimentary champagne while we waited for a table to open up. Someone in our group of 4 women expressed an interest in seeing the Eiffel Tower twinkle and the owner came to our table and escorted her outside when the lights started.

I think they would comply with your request...it's not that unusual! I know I've seen candles in desserts at some very nice restaurants in France.

If you send the restaurant an email telling them it is your wedding anniversary, they will be more than accomodating. I did that last year (it was our 35th as well), asking only for our favorite table at La Terrasse in Montmartre.

To my surprise, not only did they bring over cake with a candle, they also gave us a bottle of champagne. No one in the restaurant appeared the least put off. This was particularly true of the people at nearby tables with whom, with the permission of the hostess, we shared the champagne as we had already finished a bottle of wine.

We were in Reims staying at Le Crayeres one year for my husband's birthday. I made the reservation many months in advance and they asked which night we wanted to have dinner there. In answering I commented, "let's do it Thursday night as it will be my husband's birthday".
Never gave it another thought. After a HUGE meal and dessert, this large cart was rolled out with a cake with sparklers or something on it spewing flames. Obviously, the French celebrate events with candles.

I would recommend Le Train Bleu. It's a beautiful, romantic restaurant and won't break the bank. We will be celebrating our 30th in June and have chosen Le Diapason in the Terrass Hotel in Montmartre. We celebrated our 25 at Jules Verne in the Eiffel Tower. It is very expensive, although we thought it was worth every euro. Congratulations! Enjoy!

As far as a special treat at Le Train Bleu, MDH arranged for a wonderful chocolate torte with a candle and the waiters came and sang. This is something I have never liked, but in Paris it was great.

I sent a reservation request to Au Bon Accuiel but have not heard back. I mentioned our anniversary and asked if there was a special desert for the occasion. Am I too far out (6 weeks) to expect a reply to my reseration request or should I email them again. It has been just a few days.
