An Interesting Hotel Outside Rome

Rudy Maxa visited the region around Rome this morning on PBS.

He stayed at La Posta Vecchia, foremerly owned by J P Getty.

Ira: I would have thought that for the benefit of the Fodor's community you would also have mentioned that rates at La Posta Vecchia start at 580 Euros a night. Admittedly, that includes buffet breakfast, service and VAT...

Hi Eloise,

If I had done that, no one would have looked at the hotel.

Impressive, no?

Very (impressive, I mean), but if I can't afford to stay there, it doesn't do me an awful lot of good, does it?

And you have to admit it's a bit of a departure from the hotels you normally mention here...

Hi E,

>..you have to admit it's a bit of a departure from the hotels you normally mention here...<

Good Lord, I wouldn't even think of staying there, unless I knew I had only a month to live.

If I ever learn that I have a month to live, I think I'd spend at last a few days of it at Villa Feltrinelli.

At something in the general vicinity of twice the nightly room rates of La Posta Vecchia.

Clearly either property is a nice step up from the former residence of Mr. Christian Dior - - http://www.geocities.com/rexbickers/Montauroux.html - - where I have had the good fortune of spending a week.

Twice, in fact.

Best wishes,

Rex

Just saw this post... wow, a hotel with an onsite museum containing ancient Roman artifacts. My dream come true. Too bad it will likely always be out of my price range!
