Amalfi coast
We are disappointed to find that the tour we hoped to make along the Amalfi coast (Positano,Amalfi & Ravello) will not be available on the days we are in Sorrento. Any ideas on the best way to see these places. We will be in Sorrento Friday-Monday. Thanks in anticipation. Regards Pawsha

Hi P,
Take the SITA bus, stop is across the street from the train station, from Sorrento to Amalfi.
You have to purchase tickets in advance. Your hotel will tell you where.
The bus stop at Positano is at the top of the town. You can walk down to the harbor and take the Orange bus back up.
At Amalfi, you can take the SITA bus up to Ravello and back.
You can also take the ferry from Sorrento to Positano and Amalfi and return on the SITA bus.
Your hotel will have the schedules.

There are 2 bus stops in Positano. You should get off at the second stop. This stop is called "Sponda". It is much closer to the water level. The first stop is called "Chiesa" and it is a very long walk down the side of the mountain to town from there. You can buy your tickets in Sorrento at the SITA ticket counter which is located inside the train station. The bus stop is right in front of the train station. The SITA buses are dirt cheap and very comfortable. A great way to see the Amalfi Coast. Have a great time.

We just returned from one week on the Amalfi Coast based in Maiori ... the coast is spectacular! My husband was very brave and drove our family of four the length of the coast in the car we rented at Naples airport. He did a terrific job negotiating the twists and turns, but our teenage daughters frequently suffered from motion sickness so I don't think we would tour the coast by car the next time we visit. The buses as decribed by Ira and Larry are a less nail biting alternative to the drive and seem a leisurely, relaxed way to tour. I have also seen postings here in Fodors for private drivers who will tour you and provide a bit of inside knowledge. Enjoy!
