Amalfi Coast Area Public Transportation

Can anyone tell me about the public transportation in the Amalfi Coast area? I have looked on many websites but when I get to the bus schedules most are in Italian and I cannot understand them. Also, I can't seem to find out how long it takes to get from one city to another by bus.

We will be staying in either Sorrento or Positano and would like information on public transportation traveling to Amalfi, Sorrento, Positano, Ravello, Pompeii and Capri (ferry).

Any recommendations based on your experiences would be very helpful and appreciated!

You can take the SITA bus everywhere. They also have plenty of Taxi's. Sorrento is about 30 minutes from Positano or less, Amalfi about the same. You go through Amalfi to Ravello. You can take the SITA bus to Amalfi, change buses, and then go to Ravello. I have always used a driver so I am not sure how long the bus takes, but I am sure someone here can tell you that. You can also go to viamichelin.com and get maps, driving times, etc. You are gonna love it! Have a great trip.

Hi mg,

Keep in mind that the bus travel times are subject to traffic jams.

Also keep in mind that many of the buses get very crowded during peak travel periods, and sometimes you may not even be able to board a bus which is too crowded (for example, midway between Positano and Amalfi).

Hi Wandering Texan. You mention that you usually use a driver on Amalfi COast. I need to get from Sorrento to Positano and would like a driver - how do I find one please?

Hi shj,

We were very pleased with the service provided by Renato Cuomo.

Via Caprile 2 - 80069 Vico Equense (NA), Italy.
Tel.(+39)339 16 12 081 or (+39)081 802 30 37 -
www.cuomonet.it [email protected]

You can also just take the SITA bus.

We have always stayed in Sorrento on our trips to that area. To get to Pompeii from Sorrento you will take the Circumvesuviana train and get off at Pompeii Scavi (there is also a stop at the town of Pompeii). The ruins are a short walk from there.

You can catch the SITA bus to Positano, etc. across the street from the train station. We bought our bus tickets in a little tobacco shop at the top of the stairs on the right. This was a few years ago, but hopefully it is still the same.
