amalfi coast-3 nites

am traveling to amalfi coast in early september. Have been looking at different cities (amalfi, positano). Not sure which to stay in. Does anyone recommend one over the other?

Do you want to just veg out? or sightsee, like going to Pompeii and / or Capri? Sorrento is good if you are going to be sight-seeing: Amalfi or Positano better for staying put. If you choose Positano be ready for the Italian version of the natural stairmaster - many many steps as you move about the town.

There are no cities on the Amalfi Coast--there are a series of small towns. In order to get a meaningful response to your question, it would help if you gave us an idea of what you want to do while you are there, and what your budget will be. There have been some helpful threads here to get you started. Like this one.

We stayed in Sorrento and preferred that to either Positano or Amalfi. It's a bit larger, more options for lodging and eating, a nice comfortable vibe, great transportation connections. I just posted my trip report on this area: http://www.fodors.com/community/euro...rful-weeks.cfm
