Amalfi Coast lodging

Hi - We are looking for some recommendations. I'm wondering if anyone has a recommendation for the best area(s) to stay in if one is looking to have 3 - 4 nights romantic lodging with great sea views - top sites close enough to easily get to for sightseeing - Ie Positano, Pompei, etc.... yet be out of the congested touristy part of Amalfi. I've heard that Ravello and Salerno are good options. Can someone provide feedback? We are hoping that we can find boutique-style lodging, for $500 - $600 USD/night in the Oct 2017 timeframe.

Thanks for your help,

Shelley

In Ravello, I absolutely adored the Hotel Parsifal, which is still run by the same family and still gets great reviews; I have no idea what it costs these days (it has been renovated since I was there):

I found Ravello absolutely ethereal and am incredibly glad that I chose to stay there. That said, it is less convenient for exploring the Amalfi Coast that anything on the coast itself.

Another Ravello fan; we loved Casa di Vania; as mentioned less centrally located for touring, depending on how you plan to get around.

When we stayed in Amalfi a while ago we had a car and got to Pompeii just fine.

In Ravello and Positano this last trip we skipped the car and used busses and taxis.

La Sirenuse in Positano is fabulous but not sure the prices at that time (high).

Positano is a good base for excursions to Pompei and Capri and a delightful place to stay with many beautiful places to dine looking out over the sea.

Thanks so much to everyone. We are thinking about getting a car so Ravelo sounds like it could be an option - I'll just need to figure out how far away the things we want to do are. I haven't even figured that out yet as I'm in the initial stages of planning. Aside from Pompei and Capri and Poitano, of course....

Happytrvl - thanks for the tip!

Kja and Anna - thanks for the lodging suggestions. I'll check them both out shortly. Helsie - yes, Positano is still a consideration - I've read that Oct may be abit less crowded than summer months.

Ravello to Pompeii by car is about an hour. Drive directly north from Ravello, over the top of the peninsula and not around the peninsula along the coast. It's a narrow, twisty road for the first 15 miles or so, but the views are beautiful. If you return to Ravello from Pompeii after dark, you may want to take the A3 to Salerno and then the coast road. The mountain road in the dark would be very slow going.

I haven't been to the Amalfi Coast in summer in decades, but in October it's still crowded if the weather is good.
