Alhambra tickets

I have been advised to get my tickets to the Alhambra in advance....but every site I go to tells me its no longer working. Does anyone know the address of the ticket site? The address in Fodor's guide www.alhambratickets.com
does not work and the link on the Alhambra site doesn't work either. Thank you!

When are you going? I have been to the Alhambra 3 times (April and twice in Nov (1993 and 2004), and have never, ever had to buy tickets in advance. My experience. I plan to visit again in 3 weeks, not planning on buying anything in advance. I'll tell you how it goes...

www.alhambra-tickets.es

I would highly recommend getting tickets in advance. The last thing you want to happen is to get there w/o tickets, and find out all tickets are sold out for the day.

When I went in Feb, there was a long line for tickets.

If you purchase in advance, you don't need to stand in line. Just go to the small pavilion (for advance purchase tix) located next to the main ticket office. Inside are several e-tix machines. You need to bring the CC you used to purchase the tix. Swipe your CC and it'll spit out your tix.

The Alhambra changed ticket vendors a year or so ago; that website is out of date.

The new vendor is ServiCaixa.com, Spain's Ticketron equivalent.

Go to that website and click on English at the top right and you'll usually see Alhambra featured there. Or enter "alahmbra" in the search box.

My message bay be unclear -- the website cited by the OP is outdated, ServiCaixa is the one to use now.

Thank you all sooo much. I went www.ServiCaixa.com and they do have tickets but don't appear to sell them beyond July. At least now I know where to go. A friend took her parents last year and were not able to get tickets on any of the 3 days they were in Granada.

Guess the 2008 Fodor's book needs a correction.

I have never been to Spain before. My plan to to get a glimpse by spending 2 days each in Granada, Seville and Madrid...then a week with a friend in Marbella.

My next concern is how to get around. I fly into Malaga and was planning to go to Granada by bus...then to Seville by train..from Seville to Madrid by train and then fly back to Malaga to meet with friends.

I get in to Malaga so late that I'll need to get a hotel for a few hours sleep...then find the bus station.....any suggestions for a hotel that will be near either the airport or the bus station would be helpful.

There are hotel chains that are staples in proximity to airports; Accor, Novotel, etc... If you check their respective websites you can get info, i.e. Novotel have a hotel a couple of miles away from Malaga airport; free shuttle. Seems your best bet.

One tip on the Alhambra that I've not seen posted. Your ticket has a tear-off portion that is good for admission to the palace (or is it Generalife? I visited and still don't know the difference between palace, Generalife, Abayzin and Alhambra). That ticket is stamped with a distinct time for your entrance to this one area. Be sure to be there before your time alloted to gain entrance.

We didn't know about the timetable even though they told us when we picked up our tickets. The clerk tried to convey it to us but her English was pretty rough and we just didn't get it. When we went to another attraction on the grounds the guard saw that our time to be at the palace was in 2 minutes and his English was good enough that we finally got what the clerk was trying to tell us!

A correction to Parrothead's post:

The ticket (at least when I went in Feb 08) - does not have any "tear off" portion.

It is a ticket with a bar code on it. Also, in the lower R corner of the ticket, it shows your timed entrance to the Nasrid Palace (a 30-min window). You MUST enter the Nasrid Palace during that time frame. If you miss it, you will not be let in!

But, when you are purchasing your ticket online, before you hit confirm, they will tell you what your alloted time is.

Let's say you buy an afternoon admission ticket and your Nasrid Palace entrance time is 3:30pm.

You are allowed to enter the Alhambra complex, the FREE part, anytime in the morning. But you will not be allowed in the Generalife, or the Alcazaba until after 2pm (afternoon ticket) - the ticket agents has a machine to scan your ticket barcode.

You will not be allowed in the Nasrid Palace until 3:30-4pm.

So between 2-3:30, you can visit the Generalife and the Alcazaba.

After you visit the Nasrid Palace, you can still return to Generalife and Alcazaba until closing time, which is 8pm in the summer.
