albergo del senato

we were just quoted a price for the albergo del senato for a 2 night stay in august for $234 per night. is this a decent prce for the quality of this hotel. they originally quoted us at $270 per night but we told them we could only spend about $230 so the best she could do was $234. we appreciate it, however should we be cautious that with the low rate they will stick us in some horrible room or do you think they are just accomidating us with the lower price? and advice please?

also, we chose the hotel monacco and grand canal for venice, any thoughts?

Is that Euro or USD?
Stayed there last August and had a room on top floor with balcony overlooking Pantheon.
Was it worth $300 usd per night? Honestly, no. I mean, nice bath and bes, but nothing spectacular. If you don't have the balcony, there is no point of staying there. Just my opinion.

That sounds like a good price. We stayed there in 2003 and paid 220e, I believe, and loved the hotel. It is very elegant, has a great breakfast, and the location is perfect. A few months back when I inquired for a room for the end of April, I was quoted a price over 300e. Yikes. We're staying at Hotel Alimandi Vaticano instead.

That's a good price. Many hotels discount in August so maybe that's why they were willing to negotiate on the price. One of the advantages of the del Senato, and there are many, is that it has superb air-conditioning. That will be necessary in August.

Yes. Albergo del Senato delivers superior service and comfort for the prcies it charges, and its location is both beautiful and convenient. I keep worrying they are going to raise their prices. They'd get it!

I liked Albergo del Senato when I stayed there in May, 2004 for 3 nights. I think we paid about $300 a night for the room (no balcony but a view of the Pantheon). Excellent location, nice room, decent breakfast, etc. My only disappointment was downstairs at breakfast each morning where the only people speaking Italian were the dining room staff (to each other). Every single person in the room was American including myself. I could have been in any nice hotel anywhere in the States. I love meeting fellow travelers from all over the world and this was not exactly what I had in mind. Perhaps it was a fluke but it felt just a little surreal

I also stayed at the Albergo del senato in 2002 and paid 220 euros for a triple, so I think you are getting a good price.
It's worth every penny, I tell you. I loved my stay there, the hotel is gorgeous, location fabulous. It made my trip to Rome even more delightful!

The location alone makes it worth the $. I secretly (well, not so secretly anymore) believe that all the guests there are Fodorites!
