Edinburgh, Scotland; Dinner Theatre
I am going to be in Edinburgh in September of this year and heard of the Prestonfield Hotel that has dinner and featuring the Three Scottish Tenors. Could anyone recommend this or maybe another dinner theatre venue please?

I've never heard of dinner theatre round here, except that Dalhousie Castle used to have themed banquet evenings with the castle piper telling tales of the castle ghosts. I'm not sure if they still do this (and it would only be 1 or 2 a year I think); but their website is www.dalhousiecastle.co.uk & it's about 8 miles from Edinburgh.
Are you staying at Prestonfield ?

Thanks for the reply! I found this particular show at http://scottishshow.com/ I'm not staying at the Prestonfield though, just the entertainment seemed really great. I really wanted to do something at one of the theatres, but I have not seen anything of interest yet for September 10-13 when I'll be there. I'm keeping my eye out though! Thanks again

Hi jodi. Most of the theatres won't have their September details out yet, as we've got the festivals between now & then. The Traverse theatre, for instance (IMO the best, mainly new writing) won't even have its Festival Fringe brochure out until mid-June. In case you don't have it, their website is www.traverse.co.uk. They have a cool cafe bar where you can eat before a show, plus their are 2 restaurants - blue (modern cafe-bar-restaurant, medium priced) & the Atrium (expensive, one of the city's finest) in the same building.
The Royal Lyceum has just announced its 2006-7 season but unfortunately it doesn't start until 22 Sept - www.lyceum.org.uk.
The Festival & King's theatres have a couple of things already announced for September but the full autumn programme isn't out yet - www.eft.co.uk. Touring productions, including good dance and opera at the EFT.
The Playhouse (best website I can find is http://www.thisistheatre.com/regiona...playhouse.html) doesn't currently seem to have anything for your dates but again I'd expect more productions to be announced later. Not my cup of tea but many like it - big touring productions of mainly musicals.
There are also a couple of comedy clubs where I think you can eat before the show - The Stand (www.thestand.co.uk) and Jongleurs (http://www.jongleurs.com/clubs/edi/intro.html).
Oh, and there's Jools Holland's newish venture, the Jam House (www.thejamhouse.com) - a music (mainly jazz) venue with dining. Actually, maybe that's the nearest to what you're looking for ?
It is also very feasible to go to Glasgow for the theatre and we do it frequently. It's 50 minutes by train.
