Will be in edinburgh for two nights in September. Wanted to take the family to dine at a castle, and looking for suggestions

I think you're talking Dalhousie; but I can think of better/more spectacular places to go.

Well, if you "can think of better/more spectacular places to go" for a family spending two nights in Edinburgh who would like to dine in a castle, would you be willing to share them with us?

Sure. But some people want a castle, end of story. If that's what Ellene wants, that's what she should get

Not many castles do dinners in Scotland - a few castle hotels come to mind but that's about it. Dalhousie is your choice if you are based in Edinburgh. But like Sheila - If I wanted a memorable meal I'd personally choose a spectacular restaurant instead of a castle dinning room.

The Witchery! Absolutely. Book reservations in advance. Right by the castle in Edinburgh. www.thewitchery.com

Thanks for the replies. I am less concerned with a specatular meal, then a spectacular setting. I have read mixed things on the witchery, hase anyone eaten there recently? Will look into dalhouseie. Am travelling with youg children, so a cool setting is more important than specactular food.

I ate at the Witchery last week (short business trip). Superb and highly recommended.

You could try the Houston House Hotel just outside Edinburgh.

Thanks, I just looked at the Witchery site, and frankly dont know if I want to spend the money for my 7 and 11 year old there. The Dalhousie looks perfect. Other dinner suggestions in Edinburgh for one dinner would be great. I would love to keep entrees to 15GBP.

Just to comment... we ate at the Witchery last Sunday and my Dad and husband LOVED their steaks. My Dad said it's in his top 5 steaks of all time. My Mom and I had the seabass and I wasn't that impressed with it.

I wouldn't go again, it was way too hot in there and I felt ill. We ended up leaving before we could get dessert
. That said, I loved it when I was there in 2002.

Please note: ellene, original poster, is interested in a castle dinner, not a gourmet dinner.

She tells us later that she is interested in a castle experience for two young children, not a country house experience. Is there a choice other than Dalhousie, which certainly fills the picturesque requirement?

The Witchery is not the place for her second dinner when she is hoping for mains for £15 or less. Other choices?
