Is this all on one ticket? If it is and it's a legal connection with your baggage checked through to Spain, then the carrier is going to get you to your destination. If it's on separate tickets and you're talking about picking up baggage to re-check, my opinion is you can just about forget it.
Even with bags checked through to your final destination, a 45-minute connection such as you are describing at CDG would be very challenging. You have to come through passport control; then you are switching from Terminal 1 to Terminal 2F, so you'll be catching an ADP shuttle to get over there. Personally, I wouldn't be wiling to book such an itinerary. Good luck!

Hi Pete,
Air France is infamous for booking short connections through CDG.
I would be prepared to miss the flight to Spain.
On our last flight, into CDG 2 with a 90 min interval between flights, we made the connection only because our plane out of CDG 2 was 20 min late.
Even if you arrive on time, your plane might land somewhere near Roissy requiring you to take a shuttle bus to the terminal.
You will have to go through passport control and then security.
If you do miss the flight, remain calm. Don't get upset. The AF personnel go into passive-agression mode if you speak loudly.
You will be put on the next available flight, assuming that you have one ticket from EWR to your destination in Spain.
Sorry to be so negative.

those connections are SO TYPICAL of AF. just do the best you can, and if you miss your flight, after getting re-booked, make sure they give you your food vouchers and telephone card if you ahve long wait. also remember your travel insurance may kick in if the wait is longer than a few hours.. not much else you can do.
and don't expect too many smiles from the re-booking agents.
been there, done that.
you might want to check yourself on what alternative flights you will be looking at just so your mouth doesn't drop if/when they say you will have an 11 hour wait. (yes.. if you are going to valencia, at least last winter, a missed connection meant 11 hours wait).
hopefully you are going to a larger city, and/or the schedules have improved now in this tourist season!
in spite of everything , i still fly them. their prices have been the best by enough to make a difference to me.
good luck. it is a long airport, but sometimes walking seems better than the shuttle to me if you can figure out where to go.
do not go more than three steps without being SURE you are going towards your terminal.
