A few thoughts:

1) Economy Class on Air France is pretty grim. Then again, Economy Class on United and Delta is no better.

2) If you are concerned about "older aircraft", bear in mind that the Air France 747s are pretty old. Only a handful of them have personal TVs in all of coach (I believe that upper deck seats always have them), and even then, it is not on-demand, just the old looped videos. I find the seats to be pretty worn, as well, with very little padding.

3) I personally find the flight attendants on Air France to, at their worst, worse than other airlines. I have had more head-scratchingly bad service from Air France than from any other airline. I can take the general grumpiness of your average FA, but a few incidents on Air France stand above all of that. Delta, FWIW, I think has good FAs, except for some of the grumpier ex-Northwest FAs.

4) Airline food stinks. Air France is no exception. Their coach food is pretty average, but at least that beats their business class food, which is well below average.

5) You get free booze on Air France. Delta only gives free wine and beer, as does, IIRC, United.

6) If you are concerned about transaction fees, you can usually book the Air France flights with a Delta flight number at Delta.com.

7) Advanced seat assignments are free on Air France, but certain seats will be blocked for elites and/or a fee. Exit rows, bulkheads, and the upper deck of the 747 will usually carry a fee.

All that being said, book the non-stop, if the price is the same. Just don't expect too much from your trip.

If you are travelling cattle car class like most people, it doesn't make a lot of difference for the flight itself.

AF and Delta are the same flight. If your final destination is CDG, this is your best option. If you transfer in CDG, good luck.

If price is close, Non-stop by far. Less luggage worries, no worries about catching second flight, less flight time, etc.

We flew Air France to CDG and back this summer and they were great. We left an hour late and arrived on time! The food was fine and the movies were the standard choice. We transferred to another Air France flight and had no trouble, CDG has improved and we were at the gate in under an hour and our luggage was waiting for us when we arrived in Rome. Remarkable for CDG. I will fly Air France again next summer, they certainly made travel easy for us. We were on a 747 from Miami and loved both of our trips.

I've flown on all three as for decades I've been a frequent flyer on United and Delta. I fly out of LAX, but on United the route used to be LAX-S.F.-Paris. It's best to get a non-stop out of and into S.F. because S.F. often gets fogged in. So, forget about trying to catch connecting flights if that happens. I've been fogged in at S.F. many times over the decades and I try to avoid going through S.F. although the airport is really good as is the food.

On my 2005 flight from LAX-S.F.-Paris, I arrived to the airport around 7AM for a 10:00AM-ish flight. Well, the flight didn't leave, for S.F., until after 5PM, due to S.F. being fogged in. The flight to Paris leaves S.F. around 2:40PM. It was a mess of a situation and since I wasn't traveling alone that time, as I usually am, several other people were flying with me, I couldn't take the offer to be put on another airline and fly a different route to Paris. The others didn't want to be separated.

By the time the plane did leave LAX for S.F., it was very late and upon arrival into S.F., it was already dark outside. We then stood in more long lines and ended up with a voucher for a hotel and hoped that we could get out the next day, as now our 6-day vacation had been reduced to 5-days, providing there was space on the plane the next day.

After standing in very long lines, the next day, we finally all got on a flight and flew on to Paris. United no longer has the LAX-S.F.-Paris flight. What I would like is for both Delta and United to have non-stops out of LAX, on United and Delta planes. I'd book one in a heartbeat.

I've taken Air France to Paris, was on Air France just a few months ago. Used the Delta frequent flyer miles for the ticket on Air France. Was also on Air France August 2009. And have been on them throughout the decades depending on availability of flights.

In Economy Class....I find the music selection on Air France better than on United or Delta which is important to me. But, as for the food, I see no difference. I find the seats on Air France to be very hard and uncomfortable and I really feel like a sardine in a can on Air France. I've overheard several passengers, on more than one Air France flight, voicing their opinions on the sardine-in-a-can matter. And I've found the flight attendants on Air France to be far more surly than those on Delta and United. I find the terminal at CDG that Air France flies into and out of to be better than the one that United flies into....that long tunnel and moving sidewalk one. So, that's my opinion. And if I could have it my way, it would be United or Delta, on United or Delta planes, and with better music, and non-stop out of LAX. Happy Travels!

We fly lax to cdg all the time. We are very lucky to be in business class. WE leave in the late afternoon and get there the next day mid morning. The international cdg terminal works well.WE find the service good and the food quite edible. If I can go non stop, I do it.
