Advance tickets for the Marie --Antoinette tickets

Does anyone know how to purchase tickets in advance for this show at the Grand Palais? I'd love to avoid standing on line if possible. Thank you all.

The concierge at my hotel had the tickets - in fact he suggested the exhibit as I didn't know about it. Send a note to your hotel and see if they can help you. I really loved this exhibit and may try to get back again. The line for ticket purchase was very long...do try to get the tickets in advance somehow.

The exhibit was very crowded but we went during the first week. Hopefully it will quiet a bit.

Enjoy.

Ooooo, I'd love to see this. The site is in French Shellio, so walk us through it. Thanks.

I always buy mine on www.fnac.fr and pick them up at a FNAC store in Paris.

You can also buy them on www.ticketnet.fr and they do have an English section. That's the agency that Virgin megastores use, as well as other places in Paris (they give you a big list of where you can pick them up). There are lots of Virgin locations in Paris, including the big on the Champs Elysees. Be sure to specify you want in-store withdrawal, if you do. Apparently they will mail abroad but it costs a lot, of course.

OK, so I went and looked at the site. There are three different types of tickets: the first just says Marie Antoinette, the second Marie Antoinette General Visit, and the third is children. What is the difference between the first two? Is this an exhibit or a show where you have to select seats?

Ronda, it's lengthy but pretty simple. Start on the page I linked to in my first post.

I assume you want to see only the exhibition, not including any seminars, special visits for children, etc. so you want to select the first offer on the top of the page that says Marie-Antoinette Exposition.

Click on the yellow "réservez vos places" link on the right. Tickets (places) are 11.50 euros each.

On the next screen scroll down until you see the dates available. On the top left you will see three tabs for the months left in the exhibition: avr 08, mai 08, juin 08.

Click on the month you want to visit. On the next screen you have all available visit times in that month. Decide which date you want and click on the time you want to go on that date.

The next screen will tell you to select how many of each type of ticket you want to buy. I assume you are buying a normal ticket at 11.50 euros. In the box to the right, enter the number of 'normal' tickets you want. If you have children with you do not include them. It would appear that children under 13 are free since there is no ticket option for them while young people between 13 and 25 have a reduced price of 9.50 euros. Enter the number of 'jeunes 13 à 25 ans' in the box to the right of that category.

Scrolling further down that screen, you are asked to choose the method of payment. Select Carte Bancaire and be sure to mark 'Retrait en magasin' since you will be picking the tickets up at a Fnac store prior to the day of the visit. You will need to show the same credit card you used to purchase the tickets online when you pick them up.

Click 'Poursuivre' to continue. The next screen will show you the total price. If it isn't correct or you change your mind, click 'annuler' on the right of the price. If you want to continue, click 'poursuivre'.

The next screen will ask if you have an account with Fnac or not. I assume you don't, so click the button on the bottom right that says 'identifiez vous'.

The next screen will ask for your info: title, last name, first name, email address, choose a password, confirm the password, date of birth (day/month/year). The next 3 are marketing questions you don't need to worry about. Choose 'non' where you are asked oui or non. Fill in your address info. Where it asks for 'pays' click on the slot where the country is inserted and a list will appear. Select Etats-Unis if you live in the US. They want at least one phone number, either landline or cell. You may leave the word 'domicile' in the last slot if you are giving your home address.

On the next screen you can find the addresses of Fnac locations where you can pick up your tickets by clicking on the phrase 'Voir la liste des points de vente Fnac) at the top. Fill in your credit card information, including the security code, click the box that says you accept the conditions of sale and click 'valider'.

I haven't gone past that screen so I don't know what happens next except that I imagine you get a confirmation number.

Good luck!

WOW shellio, very good instructions. Sounds easy enough - Now what/where are those FNAC stores? I can't remember specifically ever seeing one; this is the first time I have heard of them. Thanks.

Fnac is a chain that sells CDs, DVDs, video games, software, computers, cameras, phones, etc. along with tickets to events. They're all over France. In Paris there must be 10 or so, including Place de la Bastille, the Champs Elysees, Montparnasse, etc.

I bought my ticket on FNAC site for May 30th. For some of the exibitions at Grand Palais the entrance in the morning (I mean AM) is ONLY for those with the time allocated advanced tickets. I don't know about this one.

The exibitions at Grand Palais (it's a national museum...)are usually the BIG ones. I think this one is the first such exibition in terms of size on Marie Antoinette. Grand Palais is borrowing over 300 items from other venues not only in France but all over Europe (may be some portraits and other items from Versailles). Her last letter written few hours before the execution addressed to Madame Elizabeth, her sister in law, is also on exibit.

Questions:
1. Can't the hotel's concierge order these for you?
2. Is there an English audio tour of this exhibit?
3. Must you get tickets in advance?

dolciani,

1. Ask your hotel.

2. I don't know, sorry.

3. No. It's 10euro if bought at the Grand Palais ticket window, 11.30euro for advance ticket. But the last time I was there, the entry from 10:00 to 13:00 was only for those with advance tickets. The advance ticket can be bought at FNAC, Virgin Megastore, Tourist Informations, and department stores.

Grand Palais is closed on Tuesday. Open 10-20, 10-22 on Wednesday, 9-20 on Sat/Sun. The early opening hours on Sat/Sun is only for this Marie Antoinette exibition. Some of the morning tickets for April are already sold out on FNAC site.

I wonder if this is the same exhibition that was at the Legion of Honor in SF. I missed it:

Yes, there is an English audio guide. I can't remember if I liked it or not.

I just got back from Paris. I purchased my ticket to the exhibit on the internet and picked it up at the Virgin Megastore.

Having gone to that trouble I was surprised to see that so many people in line ahead of me on that Sunday at 11am subsequently purchased their tickets to the show at the door.

I was somewhat disappointed in the show. The museum was packed full and unless you speak French or use the audio wand, I'm not sure that you'll get that much out of it. I really thought that there would be more personal possessions but the exhibit was largely family portraits.
