accomodation in barcelona
hi,
can anyone give me advice about accomodation in barcelona? it should be around ?80 or under for three people (I hope you're not shaking your heads at the silliness of this and moving on...), and have comfortable beds. an apartment would be great, but is probably too expensive. any suggestions (or warnings!) welcome.
thanks!

I've stayed at the Hotel Gran Via and I think we paid about $85 a night. It was clean , close to Las Ramblas and the subway. Also try the website www.barcelonahotel.com. A friend found a fairly inexpensive hotel on the Ramblas - Hotel Continental. Don't have results yet of their stay!
Good luck.

As soon as the text/country search feature comes back up, go through it for Spain. There are lots of good postings. Also check rants/raves on the Fodor's site - the information is pretty consistent with the Talk postings.
For apartments in that price range, check Expedia - but you need to be a little careful about neighborhoods according to the posts on this site. From what I've seen, because I've been researching where to stay in Barcelona, you are more likely to get a quality triple than an apartment, but it's worth a try - might depend on time of year.
We stayed at the Gran Via which is near Plaza Catalunya. Airport shutte buses stop there and it only takes 5 min to walk to the hotel from there. There is a gargrage a few doors from them. Also, there is a department store called Cortes Igles which has a huge supermarket attached to it for all kinds of grocery. We booked this through Travelocity. The pricing we got was a bit lower that their listed price in their official website because of some promotional rates. We also spent a night at Hostal Palacios (www.hostalpalacios.com). This isn't found in any guidebook. It's a very small establishment located on the Rambla de Catalunya (also very close by the Plaza Catalunya). It should be around your price range. I asked about Hotel Continental because it is highly recommended by other guide books (more budget oriented ones) but they were full. Also, www.tripadvisor.com compliles lists of hotels in differenct cities with links to either reviews or descriptions. Have a look.
