able to delete your own post?

wouldn't it be nice if one could delete one's own post if you had "writer's remorse" or a load of typo's you didn't take the time to check?

this option exists on a translators' site i used to participate a lot in, and more than once i was VERY grateful for being able to "erase" the suggestion i had inserted.

the option "shadows" it to the poster, and deletes it for others.

Lincasanova, I have often had the same thought. I think sometimes when a poster comes across grumpy or whatever that perhaps they clicked the post button without even meaning to. And then there it is, horrors of horrors.

You will notice how many post and than post again to correct the spelling, the leaving out of a word etc (that completely changes what they wanted to say) so being able to delete our own post would be fantastic.

I try to hit the Preview button to reread before I hit the post but sometimes I goof also.

Take care.

I believe that if you make your case to [email protected] they would accommodate a request to delete a post. But you might need to act quickly.

Best wishes,

Rex

Isn't the problem with being able to dlete posts that threads can easily become difficult to follow?

If people reply to a comment and then that original comment is deleted, the thread as a whole may not read very well when read from start to finish.

Some sites allow a 30 min period in which to edit or delete posts.

I have found this to be useful, especially after two or three martoonis.

Boy, if I had a nickel for every post I wanted to retract I'd OWN that villa in Tuscany! Okay maybe a dime for each...

I feel the same way - especially since I tend to have a wacky (whacky?) sense of humor (my kids say 'don't flatter yourself mom, you just ARE wacky').

Sometimes it doesn't print out with the same meaning as if you were speaking it and can add the inflections, gestures and expressions...

I try to make a point of previewing all posts first but that preview button is SOOOO close to the post button *sigh*

Of course after a couple of martinis it should be easier since there are two (or more) of each button... hehe

Cheers!

I have been able to edit my posts just after posting by hitting the back button, making the change and posting again. However it doesn't work once you have come out of the site.
Try to preview too.

Hi lincasanova~
According to some of the more paranoid on these boards, some Fodors posters have the power to get threads deleted by just twitching their noses
I only make stupid typos when I forget to use my preview button. Otherwise, I am a flawless typist. LOL
Once of twice, I have wished that I did not answer a post, would have liked to just delete the whole thing! Those are the times when it helps me to get up and walk away, come back later and see how I feel.
I like that option on your translators site!
