45 minutes layover

I am currently booking a return flight from Rome. It is on Delta, whereas it flies from Rome to Charles de Gaulle to Los Angeles. My concern is that the layover time is only 45 minutes. Will I have enough time at Charles de Gaulle to catch my flight to Los Angeles? Will I have to go through security again? Please share your thoughts, advice, and any experiences. Thanks.

You'll be flying on Air France or Alitalia from FCO to CDG. At CDG, you need to go through immigration (to depart Schengen) and security.

I think you have a pretty decent chance of not making the flight to LAX. I don't mean it's 50% or more. But more than a few percent chance of misconnect.

I would change it if you can. The way I see connections is that you have 45mins, BEST case. Your flight from Rome departing even 15mins late would almost ensure you won't make the connection.

CDG can be a total zoo. Plus it is very common for planes to park some distance from the terminal and they bus you in. So even IF your flight is on time don't count on 45 mins in the terminal.

That is waaaaaay to close for me. Unless you want an extra day in Paris - w/ or w/o luggage.

Hi V,

I think that you have an almost zero % probability of making the connection.

You will be put on the next available plane (if you are flying on a single ticket).

When is that plane?

Air France operates two CDG-LAX a day. One at 10:15am, the other 4:30pm.

DL codeshare on those AF flights, but don't operate their own planes on this route.

No other airlines fly CDG-LAX non-stop.

There's also a daily 1:15pm if the OP is traveling in the summer. 45 minutes is extremely tight for this connection.

I've made a 50 minute connection and also a few 75 minute connections. Very tense situation. It's an awful feeling getting on that da-n bus and driving around on the tarmac, then rushing through customs, etc. If you have a choice, I'd think about a longer connection time.
