If you search the forums in the search box above right for Capri Hotels and then Positano Hotels, you'll get loads of information.

This is one of the most FAQ's about the AC.

We liked LaMamela on Capri - not sure of the star factor - it was very pleasant but not one of the really luxe properties. Nice pool, lovely views, great location.

Since the star system is different in Italy than in the US, it is difficult to know what you are really looking for. That said, my top 2 hotels in Positano are Le Sireneuse and Il San Pietro.

Stars isn't relevant really . . . price is more important. What is your budget?

Also -- just a hint. The search function doesn't work very well -- because of technical issues on the website, a search only finds threads/posts prior to last April

Thx for the advice.

I'd say I am relying on the Italian star rating and at 4-star, I'd say >400E per night.

When will you be there?

Some hotels offer deals in shoulder season.

I would probably like to stay somewhere high for the views down to the town and water.

The one you want to consider in Positano is Le Sirenuse. We didn't stay there but we spent so much time in the bar and restaurant the staff was getting to know us. If price is not an object, stay there. Their LaSponda Restaurant is fantastic as are the outdoor terraces overlooking the sea.

I find using www.venere.com the best website for hotels. You can search by location, price, etc. And the reviews are generally more reliable.

I would highly recommend Hotel Poseidon, which I think would be in your price range. It is high enough that it has great views, without being so high that you have to rely on the bus or climb 500 stairs to get back and forth to your hotel. I rented an apartment right below the Poseidon and LOVED the views.
