Remember that Salerno to Praiano (or Positano) by bus requires a connection in Amalfi, where the two buses usually park within feet of each other. In Salerno, the SITA bus going to Amalfi stops closer to the cruise ship port (it makes a couple of short stops in central Salerno to pick up passengers before picking up the road to Amalfi), but you are better off taking a taxi to the train station to board the bus, because you're more likely to find seats there.

Meant to link the Alilauro for Salerno/Naples for Isabel. Check back on Jan 1 and see if they have March on the schedule (may only add a couple of months at a time).

PalenQ, the Amalfi Coast ferries usually run until the end of October.
Actually, the initial 2015 schedule is up on the Coop Sant Andrea website. www.coopsantandrea.com Looks like the AC ferries will be starting back up April 1, 2015, weather permitting.

Kybourbon and Gac so if we are arriving in Salerno from the Carontetourist ferry from Sicily and going to Priano, you think we would be best to catch a cab to the train station ( is there only 1 in Salerno ? ) then getting the Sita bus to Amalfi then another Sita bus to Priano ?
Do you have any idea how long the buses take we will be arriving in Salerno around 10am 16th May.
Thank you for your help so far, it all seems quite complicated.
Ciao Jayne

It's not complicated. You can take a cab to the Molo Concordia dock in Salerno, then a boat to Amalfi, then the SITA bus to Praiano. Here are the boat scheduled:
www.travelmar.it
Bus schedules:
www.sitasudtrasporti.it. See table 5070 Amalfi to Sorrento
Alternatively, you can take the SITA bus from the main Salerno train station to Amalfi, then connect to the SITA bus to Praiano. The bus trip to Amalfi takes twice as long as going by boat (70 versus 35 minutes), but costs more (8 Euros versus 6.80 Euros with a 24-hr bus ticket valid all the way to Praiano and beyond). If the boat schedules work out for you, I would take the boat to Amalfi rather than the bus (although both are very scenic). Buses from Salerno to Amalfi run hourly, as do buses from Amalfi to Praiano.

jaynes - It's 6 of one and half dozen of another. Either way, it's 2 connections with the ferry ride being a bit faster than the bus. It really depends on what time you arrive whether you can coordinate with a ferry departure and whether that ferry might be full (perhaps a tour group). It's always good to have a plan B, but buses can be full also (your luggage goes underneath).
>>>is there only 1 in Salerno ?<<<
Yes, only one train station in Salerno.

This is Amalfi/Sorrento route.

>>>Buses from Salerno to Amalfi run hourly<<<
It depends on time of day and season. Sometimes they are every half hour.
>>>6.80 Euros with a 24-hr bus ticket<<<
I think that's an old rate. I know several years ago it was 7.20€ and now it appears to be 7.60€.
***Different kind of tickets and passes, based on your chosen journey:
- 45 minutes € 2.50;
- 90 minutes € 3.80;
- 24 hours € 7.60;
- 3 days € 18.00.***

And sometimes they don't run at all like a few weeks ago (buses Salerno to Amalfi) my friends took them and it stopped due to some road blockage - rock slide, accident, whatever but they were told no buses were going thru - not sure how often this happense - probably rarely but...

Effective April 7, 2014, the UNICO COSTIERA fares were REDUCED!!! See:
http://www.fodors.com/community/euro...n-in-price.cfm
I don't know if they have once again been increased since April 7th.
There are two train stations in central Salerno, although the tiny one called "Salerno Duomo" is used only by metropolitana trains between Naples and Salerno on the milk route. The vast majority of tourists use the main Salerno station.
