Florence->Positano? via Naples? or Sorrento?

Hi, Sorry I know there's been a few threads regarding how to best reach the towns on the Amalfi Coast, I've done a lot of searching and read quite few of them. But I'd just like to confirm the best way to get from Florence down to Positano at the end of July.

From what I've read, would it be best to get the train from Florence to Naples, bus down to Molo Beverello port, then ferry/hydrofoil to Positano? Or would it be better to train to Salerno instead and get the ferry from there? I'm a student travelling on a budget, so I'd rather rely on public transport than taxis etc.

Also I've looked at the Metro del Mare website for ferry times, but the Naples - Positano ferries seem quite limited. Are there other ferry companies which operate at Molo Beverello (which would give me a greater range of ferry times in case I miss one)?
Thanks in advance

For time and budget, I'd train all the way to Salerno, then ferry or bus to Positano.

But you can't beat the views from the Naples to Positano ferry.

Hi Jean,
Thanks for your reply. Do you know if any other ferry companies apart from Metro Del Mare operate from Salerno? If so, are their timetables online?

Its just that Metro Del Mare ferries from Salerno to Positano seem to stop at 11:30 and only start at 18:00. As I hope to be catching the train down from Florence in the morning, I think I won't be able to catch the morning ferries but having to wait about 5 hours until the next ferry but be a bit too long.

Hi Sue,

Train to Salerno.

Ferry to Amalfi.

You can then continue on the ferry for the sea view of the coast or take the SITA bus for the Land view.

I prefer the ferry.

For Ferry schedules Positano – Amalfi - Salerno (P.zza della Concordia):
See http://tinyurl.com/3cbhkb

You can also take the SITA bus from the Salerno train station to Amalfi and then to Positano.
